I am looking to get rid of my old 645ci, an Audi TT MK2 3.2 S-Tronic Buying Advice seems like a nice car and would fit the bill.

I want the S-tronic box, Mag suspension, sat nav and xenons.

I am wondering if anyone may be able to give me some specific tips or areas of concern when buying.

I`m going to see an 06 with 60k on it, box replaced in 2011, i`m told its perfect but it has had 6 previous owners which is putting me off slightly.

A lot of people buy 3.2s because they look like wicked value then get pissed off with 22MPG and £500 tax; then selling the car on for a more 'sensible' option.

Assuming you've already decided you can live with the economy (S-Tronics dodge scary tax too) they're wicked value and lots of fun.

S-Tronic and Nav are easy enough to find, there are a few around with Xenons but really not very many with magnetic ride (it's a nice option to have if you can track one down).

Listen to it cold start, shouldn't be rattly for more than a second or so.

Throttle pedal is a bit hair-trigger on these and the gearbox can be a little abrupt but shouldn't be jarring/violent.

Box and diff oils every 40k.

A lot get used around town and bumped/bashed so look at paint very carefully. Ditto wheels and tyre wear.

TTs are buggers for dash/interior rattles and never from one particular place.

They're cool little cars; we had a manual roadster a few weeks ago. Well specified with good history and it sold on the day it arrived.

About -7K cheaper than the ropiest TTS too smile

Sticks.

Had mine 6 years now and agree with Dr G but would add:

On A and B roads I average 25 - 30 mpg. It's a bit slow to warm up so short journeys it can register as low as 12, up to 31 on a steady motorway trip. Not that that's why you buy it. It's fast enough, makes a great noise, practical enough for 2, comfy enough for distances. Mag ride is OK, Xenons would probably be good as the standard lights are not fantastic, though they come with LEDs Afaik. It's a bit fat and the high window-line so kerbed alloys result (my excuse anyway). Leather can be easily 'dented'. Seats don't move forward when tilting the backs, so access to the back 'seats' isn't good. Not sure if electric seats have memory function.

Window regulators will fail, and are relatively expensive to fix if not DIY. On non-nav set up, early Bose Symphony systems had virtually no bass, iPod dock is next to useless. Not sure whether it's just mine, but I find the S Tronic clumsy at slow and parking speeds, harsh in S mode, and usually in 1 gear higher then I'd want in D - though it pulls well from low rpm. I use the manual change and paddles more than S.

I don't find the dealer support as good as BMW, though that could be just mine. Had an air con compressor and fuel filler under warranty, and not much else has gone wrong. Some had a recall for coil packs, I believe, which can be checked using the VIN.

6 owners and a new box? As people seem to prefer the S and the TFSi, you ought to be able to find one at a relatively good price.

Lots of people who know much more than me here. http://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?sid=8ec3e...

Smashing thanks.

What is the opinion on the 6-owners, I`d say reasonable unusual for a car with only 60k, though its backed up with FSH. I`d prefer the box to have been replace though (done in 2011 by audi as a gesture of goodwill)

It's not unusual for a 'toy' car.

Ultimately, it makes zero difference to how good the car is or is not.

I'd take a meticulously maintained car with 6 owners over a shed with 1 any day. Use it as a negotiating tool if the car is otherwise what you want.

I may be seeing my 2007 3.2 s-Tronic in the coming weeks op. What sort of budget do you have?

My car is a very high spec, off the top of my head it has the following options
Bose
Nav
Mag ride
Tyre pressure monitor
Electric seats
Multi function steering wheel
Extended leather

Sorry for the brief post, I'm posting using my phone. If you want more info feel free to drop me a pm. smile

I bought a different one in the end.

Very much enjoying it so far, such a different car to my old 645ci. It manages to be less crashy but also far more composed with a lot less roll.

The only thing that I do not like is the lack of an armrest.

Here it is.

It seems pretty well spec`d.

Pro Sat Nav, Xenon plus, mag ride, S-Tronic, extended leather, cruise control, BOSE, multi-functional steering wheel, parking sensors, folding mirrors, electric seats etc.

Had the S-tronic & haldex oil & filter changed, along with a full service, warranty, new MOT, and new goodyear tyres as part of the deal
