Evening guys,
I'm in need of a Legacy and the Spec-B is really the only one I want. This is the only one in the Subaru network and I'm off to look at it on Saturday.

I've already got them down from £9000 to £8000 but the fact I'll have to add another £500 tax means I really want this down further to the 7500 to 7600 mark. The benefits of getting it from Subaru are of course an unlimited mileage warranty and peace of mind but I'm not willing to pay a few grand more for anything less than perfect - or a good deal close to it.

The car has a few marks and dings but isn't odd for the age and mileage (2006 car with 75k) and I'm hoping anything I do see can be polished out or touched up professionally - at their cost. The fact they dropped to 8 so fast suggests there is more money to be taken from them but I appreciate they have margins.

So, take a look at this and let me know what yo think please http://www.unityautomotive.co.uk/useddetail.aspx?u...

The other option is for a JDM Spec-B although that does come with a slightly different spec apart from the obvious engine change http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-Subaru-Legacy-Twin-...

Again, it looks like a great car but is £8500 which is quite a lot of money in my eyes.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

David

Hi,

Looks a little overpriced to me even at 8.5k.

It's not really low miles or that new. But does have Subaru warranty. It would have to be great in every area (FSSH, Good Tyres, Exhaust, Recent Clutch etc) to warrant that price.

They are difficult ones to value. Prices seem to be all over the place for these. I think they are quite hard to sell at strong prices unless you are a main dealer. If you owned that privately you'd struggle to get 6k. Maybe only 5k. Not a big market for them, despite them being great cars.

It's just inside the high tax band too which will put a lot off.

I've just bought a 2005 Spec B Estate, much higher mileage (127k) but has good history. Paid £3800. I've then got another spare 1k to sort out any issues.

But if you plan to keep it a while then paying 8k is still good value if it's got a good service history.

I think you used to have a Forester XT? I had one and although it was bonkers quick, I found it a bit noisy on longer drives. The Legacy is quieter at speed and a nicer cabin. I also think it handles better, though is obviously not as good off road.

Hope you get a good one. Can't help with the JDM one. I decided I wanted a NA one, as I'd had the turbo experience with the Forester and fancied a 6 cylinder car.

Cheers

Thanks mate. Still got the Forester and it's not brilliant on long drives but perfectly good for 95% of the time. We just did 1000 miles in a week on holiday and it never missed a beat. I've also still got the Impreza STI too so a Spec-B will be a nice edition. There's a few around but none are 100% perfect for me yet and despite the above being pretty good it is a fair few grand above it's real value. I'll go take a look and take it for a test drive next week.

It's not a spec-B, it's a 3.0R, or have I missed something?

Not sure why you think it isnt a Spec.B (it is) but is not worth the money they want for it. I went to see it yesterday and while it's a good car it's worth 6k tops and honestly felt a little gutless, probably down to the flat torque curve. I'm now looking at a JDM Spec-B instead but not the one I also mentioned as that was snapped up in four hours.

Can't comment on the Legacy, it's a planned car not a current or ex. I've had 2 Foresters for 6 years of ownership and used to commute to Germany in them both. Never found them wanting on that sort of long journey; armrests, cruise control and away you go. Once drove from Kent to Devon, roads were so quiet only came out of cruise control at the M25/M3 junction and had to go to 'pedal mode' at Amesbury.
