Hi there,

I would like a cheap and relatively robust (easily improved with a case I suppose) tablet that I can load work pdfs on as a reference. I'd also watch a bit of youtube and web browsing, but I have a laptop and phone so it is unlikely to be it's primary use.

Nice big battery life would be great, to save me having to charge it up between jobs.

What should I be looking at? I've had a brief search and man-maths'd my way to a Galaxy Tab S or waiting for new Nexus, which defeats the point of me having an 'almost disposable' reference tablet.

Thanks!

They're undeniably good tablets but if my old 1st gen is anything to go by not necessarily the best build quality wise long term, corners must have been cut somewhere to get such good specs at a low price I guess.

I'm an electrician and have an old kindle 4 loaded up with PDF files that has been virtually indestructible, obviously won't do other stuff and I also have my 7" Tegra Note handy as well, the pens good for note taking when doing quotes but I leave it in the van when on a job.

Is it worth waiting for the new Nexus to be released? Isn't that due in a few weeks - Nexus 7 should be dirt cheap then!

The iPad battery life is really good. It's very hard to use a full charge in a day unless streaming through Sky Go etc. Even then it will last a good 4 hours easy.

Highly recommend the Galaxy Note 8, just £199 from Tesco.com at the moment.

Pen is especially useful should you need to annotate the pdf files.

I picked up a refurbished Acer Iconia W3 for £140. Windows 8, so will do everything a real PC will do unlike Android and iOS. Not as slick as an ipad, but cheaper and much more useful.
