I've always liked them, especially with to Proteus wheels.

Very underrated, tax is £270 but apart from that on a petrol you will get over 30 on a good day.

Have had a saloon but no bothered about the estate and when you mentioned reliability issues

I say that you are talking out of your PH rear pipes. 100k with no issues whatsoever and many hit 200k with no issues either.

That would be the brand nob tax applied to the parts.

WHAAAAT! Robbing feckers! Brake parts are 100% identical to Mk3 Mondeos of the same era.

One thing I did notice during ownership was the price of parts changed depending on which brand of car you said you had. I needed a starter motor, and 'one for a Jaguar' was £385 whereas 'one for a V6 Mondeo' was £80 (same part incidentally).

Oh, and the same seller was selling the same part 'for a Noble' for £550.

I've had one for almost 4 years and it's brilliant. Mine is the 3.0 sport premium in manual estate form. I can get the bike or dog in the back, it's quick enough for me and It is brilliant in the snow. Never had any reliability issues either. There's a lot of negativity surrounding these cars and the saloon isn't to everyone's taste, but I think it is a great car.

I might be a little biased as I own an 07 2.5 se saloon. Only has 24k on the clock and drives as tight as a drum. 4wd is great in the wintry conditions. Ride quality is very good. Not as bad on fuel as has been claimed. I average 25mpg in town and on a decent run with mixed driving averaged 38 mpg and I'm not light footed. As for performance a friend has a 156 2.5v6 and the Jag has a notable advantage in a sraight line once it gets into its stride and through the bends so its not slow by any means. Granted you either love or loathe the looks but for me its a good all rounder for the money.

I've owned my 3.0 Sovereign manual saloon for 18 months now, and I really like it!

I really don't care about the staid or 'trying too hard' looks.

It's very comfortable, well equipped, reliable, performs well, is very easy to work on and parts are cheap (less than £50 for front discs and pads anyone?).

It currently returns 32.5 mpg over my working week, and is capable of getting me to work in virtually any weather.

Don't understand this specific X type unreliability stuff, other than 02 plate plastic valves in the auto gearbox and very early model sill rust problems. Remove all of the issues caused by bad vehicle maintenance and I'm not sure what you're left with.

Mine (a 3.0 auto) is bulletproof returns 23-32mpg and other than consumables has cost 2 lambas in 82K miles. One to buy well now, keep for donkeys and watch the values go back up. Diesels are pretty much Mondeos in drag, AWD petrols much less so. Officially I understand 19% Ford 81% Jaguar in terms of parts.

Good enough for me.
I had a 2001 year 3.0 SE auto.

It was a lovely car. Quick, handled well, sounded awesome as mine had a sports exhaust fitted when it built. Extremely comfortable & overall probably the best car I have ever owned even with her love of petrol stations!!!

And then the engine decided to let go in a big way - with just 68k miles on the clock.

Gutted when she was sold.

My browser won't show what you've posted but I'll take it back as far as the 911 is concerned. The E-Type headlights are circular and the Escort's rounded squares. So I'll stand by my comment. Almost.

Odd thread because all the reviews are very very positive - saying things like "Interior is very Jaguar. Fantastic blend of ride and handling". I've only heard of reliability concerns about the diesel.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Car reviewers are absolutely full of st, and often even more deluded/lazy/biased/influenced that film reviewers.

The interior was very "Jaguar, by Happy Shopper" for a start.

Ouch, I ran a Mk3 Mondeo for 10 months - it was easily the lowest point of my motoring life, including the few months I didn't actually have a car and took the train / walked - anyway it's only redeeming feature was the cheap bits - the brake pads for example being cheaper than the brake pads for my Mountain Bike...

Anyway, as for the Jag, I don't think I could ever get over the styling, I hated it when it was new - I liked the old XJ, but I hated this as much as the Rover 75, it was old - not retro cool like the Fiat 500, just old fashioned - the estate is better than the saloon, but a cold is better than the flu, but I'd rather not have either. It's probably nice to drive, but I bet it's not class-leading, I'd rather either gamble a bit on an Alfa or pay a bit more / take a slightly old 3 Series or A4 Quattro.

60% of the power and 60% more miles. its quite obvious why that vehicle is cheaper.

I don't think ford put that engine in an estate only the special ST220

Again, the 3.0 X-Type didn't share an engine with the ST220. Different top end, Jag included variable valve timing, more power, etc.

I don't understand why people are suggesting Mondeos as an alternative to an X-Type. The car I had before my 3.0 SE was a Zetec-S Mk3 Mondeo and the two cars were chalk and cheese.

The cars share some consumables, a front sub-frame and engine blocks, but that is about it. Different wheelbase, completely different rear suspension, no interior parts shared (not even switchgear), no panels shared, no glass shared, no electronics shared. I glibly assumed one time that the front anti-roll bar bushes would be pure Mondeo and bought a set only to discover they bore no resemblance to the Jag ones whatsoever.

The 'Mondeo in drag' moniker should be down on the list of 'stupid things non-petrolheads say'.

If I could find a good 2005 3.0 SE or Sport Premium I'd have it in a shot.

Incidentally, when launched in 2001, the AJ30 was a class leader in terms of BHP/litre.

Had our 2008 2.0d Sport now for just over 2 years and have done 30,000 miles in that time.

It's been faultless, been Le Mans 4 times, Paris twice and all over the UK

Had it Superchipped and fitted with the upgraded tensioner kit so is fast and quiet now.

Greatly under rated car.
