Hello

I'm still uming and arring about what my next car will be but I quite like the thought of a two door Impreza. One thing that bothers me with the Type-R is the really short gearing. I seem to remember that some of the later Type-R's had a longer 5th gear (like the P1). Anyone know which model it is? Version VI V limited???

thanks

Mark

No doubt someone will be along to correct me but I thought only Type RAs had the shortened gearing ie topped out at 120mph or so in 5th?

The type r's also run short gearing with a 4.4 diff. As far as I'm aware none run longer gearing. The later v4's and the v5/6 use the later 754 box which is stronger and can take a bit more power.

A lot of people have fitted a UK 5th when the box has been rebuilt making it better for motorway cruising. Maybe this is what your thinking of.

IIRC at least some of the V-ltd versions had a longer 5th as a factory option, but I don't know if there is any way to tell if a specific car has it without driving it.

It was an option on the v5/6 cars and correct only way to tell is to drive them. Though if you got a 5th gear from a TY754 UK box it could be retro fitted into you current box

The V6 Type R Limited has the same ratios & final drive as the regular V6 Type R.
