Just a list, really. Feel free to add films, locations, IMDB references, etc. But please don't use this as a place to comment on the conflict(s) as that battle is already being fought elsewhere on Pistonheads.

Lebanon (2009) Samuel Maoz. A small group of paratroopers and a tank become isolated during the 1982 war. Has been likened to Das Boot in a tank.

Waltz with Bashir (2008) Ari Folman. Animated film in which the director tries to regather his memories up to and including the Sabra and Shatila massacre by interviewing his wartime companions.

Remnants of a War (2010) Jawad Metni. Documentary on the work of local de-miners clearing cluster munitions in the aftermath of the 2006 Israel/Hezbollah war.

Can be seen free on
http://www.cultureunplugged.com/documentary/watch-...

(need to register)

Al Nakba (2009) Rawan Damen. Al Jazeera documentary. Reviews the background and history of modern Israel from a Palestinian perspective, with lots of documentary footage, newly unearthed documents, participation by European, Arab and Israeli historians.

In 4 parts: available on You Tube and as torrents.

The Colour of Olives (2006) Carolina Rivas. Documentary about the lives of a Palestinian family cut off from their land by the West Bank Wall.

On You Tube

Beaufort (2007) Joseph Cedar

Beaufort is (or was) a Medieval Crusader Castle overlooking the Litani River in Souther Lebanon. The PLO held the castle from 1976 onwards. In 1982 at the start of the war, it was taken by the IDF and adapted by them by the installation of a system of bunkers. In 2000 the Israeli army left Beaufort and blew it up.

This film is about the final days of Israeli occupation. A fine war film, but little about the conflict itself.

'Paradise Now'(2005) Very powerful film by an Israeli director, set in Tel Aviv it tells the story of two life long friends who sign up for a suicide mission. I have it in my collection.

Not a film but Louis Theroux did a documentary a few years ago on the conflict. It's available on Netflix and gives some good insight into the conflict.

I think this May be a little OT as it relates to Iran, but. Jon Stewarts' film Rosewater is released in a few weeks and it's been getting very positive reviews.

TV rather than film, but Prisoners of War was excellent. It inspired "Homeland".

Masterful, short introduction to the conflict for beginners. A must see. If you can only watch one thing, watch this!

The Gatekeepers.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2309788/?ref_=nv_sr_3

Interviews with 6 former heads of Shin Bet. Whilst not specifically about Israel/Palestine, it naturally occurs a great deal.

Fascinating to show the thinking behind the security service and how they dealt with the situation, and how they feel now. Actually a surprisingly positive vote for human nature.

Hey, that's great! Thank's for the heads up. I've been meaning to watch this film since I heard about it in 2012, but only just got around to it. The newsnight thing might be quite good.

As an aside, the guy who made 'The Gatekeepers' was inspired by the documentary 'Fog of War; 11 lessons form the life of Robert McNamara', which is also very interesting.
