I need some advice as I am selling my car on AutoTrader to have had an offer from an Export company in Guernsey (Bluchip.gg) who have a buyer for it there. They did a HPI check over the phone with just the reg and paid a deposit using Paypal after speaking to them on the phone.

They want to collect the car this week (using their specialist based in the UK) and pay in cash!

is this too good to be true?

Seriously, what makes you think this is a scam. I want to be sure either way.

Thanks.

The firm looks legit. Perhaps the most odd thing is they want to pay cash.

Well they said the would pay cash with me at the bank as well, which seems too good to be true as we LOL
Its only a £6,500 car so not exactly a high priced market.

DOes anyone know how the export works on the log book as it appears I give them to main part and send the blue export part to DVLA. But how does this safe guard me of them sending the part across to DVLA to register under Guernsey?
Is there anything stopping them driving the car around in the UK and gaining tickets under my name, etc

This is 100% a scam.

You'll lose the car, and the police will say it's a civil matter as you handed it over.

Either that or they'll ask you to pay some "administration costs" - and if you're lucky that's all you'll lose!

UPDATE: A whois search on the bluchip.gg domain name shows that it was registered in 2001, which is unusual for a scam - normally the domains are "here today, gone tomorrow", so this is more positive. OP - have you tried phoning them - or did they phone you?

(edited as I dodn't read the OP properly)

It appears the company does exist though? Obviously I would not let the car go without cash into bank anyway, but I am unsure how else they can scam me apart from additional costs/shipping costs and/or log book scam in any way?

I agree, you just need to be sure their web site hasn't been compromised. Can you use another method (Directory Enquiries?) to get a contact number for the company - just to check you're in contact with the right people.

I have actually contacted Guernsey Tourist Board and they have confirmed the company does exist as they know the owner as well. I really don't know what to do frown

If they're going to pay you in cash in your bank, and the bank check and accept the money, then it's difficult to know what could go wrong.
