toying with getting one of these as opposed to a beemer 6-series (the cls is infinitely more practical)

I see that circa £12.5k will get me a nice low mileage 320 diesel and £16k will get me a low mileage 350 grand...

is the grand worth the additional £3.5k?

I have an 07 cls 320. Best car I've owned, only downer is it can take 4 people not 5 (no middle seat). I managed to find mine for 10.5k with 70k miles 1 owner and fully Merc history. It had generous options inc AMG styling and alloys and also the Airmatic suspension, which I'd thoroughly recommend. Shop around as these are looking extremely well priced for the kit you get. Let me know if you want any more specific info on the car. Oh any real world mpg is late 30's early 40's.

I'll also be interested in any replies. Been looking at facelift 320 CDis (no SBC I think). I haven't read any horror stories yet.

Great cars, mine is a late 06 320cdi, with the amg kit/wheels/exhaust, airmatic and brabus d6 power upgrade. Makes a noticeable difference in performance as i'd driven a few without first. They can be remapped easily to 270+, i think the Brabus kit is about £1000 new. Mostly used on the motorway, regularly returns 40mpg, is quick and sounds pretty good for a diesel too. Im not 100% sure but i think the later grand editions come with the power upgrade from factory. My other choice was a 635d but im glad i went for this one instead.

What are these cars like to drive in terms of size. Awkward to use in town, park etc? They seem really long/large in the flesh.

Pretty big really, front and back park sensors help, plus they have an led display strip thing on the dash. Overall nice drive, not a pain in the city/ town. I'm careful in car parks with people denting doors etc, so always try and park in space, but that's with most cars anyway
