Mods,

Posting this in GG as the sat nav sub forum has very little traffic. If there's an issue with that, I will understand.

Afternoon all,

Having just been delivered a new company car I am on the hunt for a portable sat nav system. My previous company motor had a built in system but given the cost of the integrated unit I didn't tick that box this time around.

My needs :

Easy to use please
decent window mount included - I dont want to have to spend another £50 on accessories
As long a free update period as possible
Not a smartphone suggestion
One that I could plan a route into. Rather than simply just getting me to point (A) I'd like to use it for touring around with on random Sunday drives.
Under £100 approx although I'm not adverse to buying something decent if it's worthwhile.

Background :

I'm in the North East of Scotland if that makes any difference. Main uses will be for finding customer offices in and around Aberdeen, used on the occasional trip south into the central belt and on cross border raids to Englandshire.
No real need for one that includes "Safety" scamera locations

Thanks in advance.

I just purchased a Garmin nüvi® 42LM‏ from Halfords for £80 (on offer) to use for a European trip. It works well, but did try to take me up some dirt tracks in rural France.

I've always used manufactures systems before. Some of the features are better but screen size takes some getting used to. It has a screen mount but I prefer to mount it lower down on the centre console.

I'm on my third TomTom now (one broke in car crash, one stolen).
I'd buy another happily. I'd buy an XL IQ live model - big screen, intelligent routing (using congestion time of day route weighting) and live traffic updates using Bluetooth tethering with your phone.

Even though my car has a sat nav integrated, I still use the TomTom on a long unfamiliar journey. I also use Google maps on phone because the hires display makes browsing easier.

I have the Garmin 2598 - have had a number of different makes/models but always come back to Garmin.

It has lifetime map updates, a decent traffic notification system and is small/thin enough to put in a pocket or bag.

Garmin also have their pc-based route planning system (basecamp) which isn't too bad

Sir

The most reliable and the most consistently accurate Sat Nav I have ever had is the nüvi® 3598LMT-D

Granted this is premium and it is 3x your budget... but just one missed appointment or that guidance to a long since closed down garage will have you seething that you went cheap...

It is worth saving up for
