Just a query as BMW parts department were unsure. I went in to get new jack point covers as I seem to have lost three. Does anyone have jack pads fitted? I sort of assumed that pads would not fit underneath the flaps/covers.

Also has anyone tried zip tieing the hinge on the flap. They do not seem very secure particularly for 'enthusiastic' drivers.

What do you mean by jacking pads? There is the black jacking blocks fixed to the underside of your car, as well as the orange jacking point extension blocks.

All four of my covers are missing, I didn't even realise they should be there, apparently they fall out all the time, personally I wouldn't bother replacing them to only loose them.

Pads stay in the boot until needed to jack up the car when you remove the covers fit the pad and jack smile HTH

I have ordered new flaps to cover the jacking points and may well put a zip tie mechanism in place to prevent loss but to anable them to be dropped for jack access.

So are we saying that the square blocks sit on the jacking points under the covers or they are removed/removable and just get put in place for jacking as and when ????

At the moment I use a hockey puck.

I meant the black oblong pads that sit in the metal surround on the underside.

Are you saying my GP should have come with orange jacking pads??

The covers will go over the black blocks, as these are fixed to the car.

You should also have 4x Orange jacking block extension pieces in the boot, mine are under the storage compartment, without these you cannot lift the car on your normal four post ramp.

I couldn't find an image of them but this gives you an idea, fig 4 are fixed to the underside, fig 5 are the block extension pieces.

I'm assuming it's an R53, but the part number for them is 51717188454

Thank you AdamGP and Fierny. I cannot remember if I said but I did go into a dealers but parts said the diagrams were generic so not always model specific. I was also unsure if the pads would fit under the flaps.

I cannot imagine the blocks are very useful though as it is difficult enough to get a low entry jack under the car as it is.

I will order the pads (which will probably come with the extensions anyway). My new flaps came in the other day - circa GBP 60!!

I don't use the extension blocks when using my trolley jack.

Are you sure you don't have the jacking points mounted to the car? These are very securely fixed and wouldn't just fall off.

Positive. I am pretty sure they are the same as those on the e46 BMW which I have. I remembering hearing early on in my ownership that they were prone to falling off on the BMW. Someone must have removed them. I did cut out a hardwood block to put into the rectangular metal recess before I started using a hockey puck.

Yeah they are the same as the E46 (previously owned a 330ci) Very strange that yours have come out, I would of though somebody has removed them rather than falling out.

Well at least you now know the covers will go over them.
