I have to come over to the UK for three or four days in the next month or so and need to stay in Manchester.

Can anyone recommend a half decent hotel (doesn't have to be ridiculously posh but also not a dive), within walking distance of a few pubs/restaurants please?

Thanks smile

NOT the Brittania. Awful.

Used to stay in the Palace Hotel, as it was a lovely building for not over much, with a great breakfast, but that was a few years ago now, so check TripAdvisor.

Macdonald Hotel by Picadilly is ok and walking distance to everything, the Portland on Portland St has been recently refurbed and is even nearer

The manchester city centre chain hotels, premier inn and the like are all very good. Have a look on booking.com

I've given up on hotel rooms now and just book serviced apartments. You can get them at the same price, and there's more space to do what you want to. It's also a benefit to me to be able to use a kitchen, some people like having a hotel restaurant or eat out, whichever. I just find it a bit more spacious and more like home than hiding away on the 8th floor of somewhere

Aparthotel Manchester in Deansgate wouldnt be a bad shout if you want to be based that way and fancied a mix of apartment and hotel

The Midland (a Q Hotel) is very nice (4 star) - right in the centre near to Oxford Rd and Deansgate train stations. Good pubs just around the corner/down the road as well as restaurants in the vicinity. That's where I always try and stay, and I work in Manchester.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I've decided that staying in the centre of Manchester would probably drive me mental traffic wise, so I've booked into The Village hotel in Ashton. biggrin

I stayed at the Marriott Victoria ans Albert last weekend. Nice quiet area away from Deansgate, but only 10 mins walk from bars nd restuarants.

Parking wasy, there's a small NCP next door that charges £8 for 24 hrs instead of the £16 the hotel wanted us to pay.

Too late now, Tonks. I have to travel into Stalybridge each day and it was recommended by the company I'm visiting, oh well.

Sad times. I more or less live in the city centre now and the traffic really isn't that bad.

Nope, flying over.

Eldest daughter still has the Cabrio, she's crashed it three times so far, sturdy old car thumbup

Once even into Mrs Adenauer's Golf irked

Escargot, thanks for confirming that I've made the wrong choice biggrin

It's acommodation in it's purest sense, yes. I'm sure the actual hotel will be OK, it's the area. Should have been bulldozed. If the plan is airport-hotel-work-hotel-airport then you'll be alright but it's not very interesting once you step outside the safety of the hotel reception

I'm sure it'll be character building anyway
