Hi

Spending a couple of nights in Glasgow and wondering if anyone can recommend any good wine bars - a place to relax and people watch - any ideas?

Staying at the Hilton near the Hydro - we're probably going to have a meal at The Ubiquitous Chip one night so will be in the Ashton Lane area.

Any ideas appreciated.

Firstly I'd ignore Kiltie, he's a teuchter.

The List is usually a good start point...

or hopefully a local will give better local knowledge.

ashton lane has loads of great pubs ranging from full of students to the chip which is really nice. Good thing is all in one place really.

+2 on Vronis - it's a nice bar with decent grub. Not overtly well finished or posh looking though. Also quite small.

Or at the other end of the scale, the champagne bar in the Corinthian is far more wky, or the Blythswood Hotel more luxurious.

If you can convince '29' (phone ahead) to let you in that's also more upmarket.

Boudoir in Albion Street nice too in a girly kind of way. Also try out Velvet Appetite on West Nike Street

Thanks for replies - very helpful. I won't be going anywhere I need to ask if I can get in though.

I've been in 29 a couple of times over the last few weeks for dinner, too much up its own arse. The food was good, not great and didn't really feel that the staff were knowledgeable or attentive enough to warrant premium price. Glad it was on expenses and not me footing the bill.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you... but I see 'premium' and 'wine bar' and I think '29'. thumbup

Edinburgh seems to have better wine bars from the lack of recomendations.
