Chaps I've had a hunt around and I'm struggling to find a definitive answer to this question.

My car is a 1990 Eunos 1.6 with a decat but otherwise standard exhaust (I think) and the MOT is coming up shortly.
Is it likely to pass the MOT with the decat pipe fitted or should I refit the cat for the test? Don't really want to if i dont have to because it involves scrabbling around underneath the thing.

Yes it will pass just fine (assuming it's OK mechanically) - I had a 1992 1.6 for years with a decat, and now a 1994 1.8 with a decat, never had any MOT issues with those parts.

That's good news thanks, I'll have a go with it off then.

Just the burst heater pipe, cam sensor o-ring and front brakes to do before the MOT.

Anything before 94/95 import or 92 uk don't need a cat to pass the mot emisions are done on the older system.

I think I'm correct in saying that the qualifying factor for cats is whether the car's VIN number appears on DVLA records as having been first registered in the UK.
Obviously if it's an import it won't so test is less stringent.
However it does mean we non-cat runners pay a higher rate of Excise Duty.
Swings and roundabouts.....
Cheers, Pewe.
