I have a landscape shot which I'd like to get in something around 100x70cms however I'm looking at options on mounted photos. I did initially think to get a print and then frame it but now I'm thinking of either Canvas or fibreboard or even Acryllic mount.

Any recommendations on where to get one? Whats currently en vogue in terms of mounting? The room has a lot of natural wood in it which leant me towards the wooden frame but it might show it off better on something a little different.

I've just ordered some prints mounted on Foamex from Spectrum in Brighton. Not cheap, but I'd heard nothing but good reports about their work. I'll let you know what they're like when they arrive.

Ah this is opportune. My lad wants a couple of my landscape shots put into large canvas prints too.
My question involves the file supplied to the printers - the online services want a JPEG but even at the least compression the finished JPEG file is only around 6 meg or so.

How do they get a good quality very large print from such a small file?

I think Tim has stopped doing canvasses. Photobox do them, but don't buy the cheapest version as they are a bit crap.

Loxley has lots of options available. I've never used them for these but the quality of their prints and speed of their service are excellent.

For canvases, I've used Trade Canvas Print a few times and I'd definitely recommend them.

BPD photographic I used before on a large format print. They accepted TIFF files but I wanted to know whether the foam mounted stuff looked ok or not. If not i'll stick with either Canvas or behind glass again.

Bookmarked thanks.

Can you tell me what size file is best please so no jaggies etc..?

For example, I started with. 33 meg RAW but it becomes a 6 Meg JPEG at best quality after processing. Or would the tiff file be best which would be bigger. Or does it not matter?

The difference between the highest quality Jpg and a Tiff from the same file printed at the size you are thinking of will be minimal. In fact I would go as far to say that you wouldn't notice any difference at all.

As long as your aren't cropping massively in on the original file then there should be no issue with quality. 6mb is plenty for a Jpg. If it were under 1mb then I would be a bit worried smile

We always check files and will warn of any quality/cropping issues before going to print so if you wanted to send your image over to us for a look, I'll be able to give you a better idea.

I think as long as the PPI is reasonable then it'll work just fine, if not there's always upscaling software to fill in some of the blanks

MysteryLemon, I'll confirm with the missus on the exact size, make sure she's happy with Canvas and then give you a shout.
