Lancia Monte Carlo - Any Owners On Here ?
Discussion
"our" Monte was a white hardtop with red interior, lightly modified with slightly wider series 2 wheels and a four pipe Ansa exhaust.
My memories of it are very positive, although it looked much quicker than it was but was pointy and had great traction .
Ive never seen a bodykit like this red car before, if it were mine, I'd be getting it back to standard.
. The Martini stripes on our car were originally intended for a Porsche 924, but provided a real 70's period look on the Lancia.

I have had a few over the years... I bought the turquoise one in 1980 (it’s a 1977 car) and only sold it about 10 years ago. They were never that quick, even in the day… mine had twin webers, CCS exhaust, big valve head and a few other mods… probably around 150 BHP.
I was the technical advisor to the Lancia club for many years (pre internet!) and I used to buy and sell cars and parts.
here are a couple I broke for spares...
There are a few more on my web site

worked with a guy called Brian (?) in the 1980's, Ponteland area, he lived in Heddon on the Wall. He had a blue one like that.Did gardening in the summer and ski instructor in the winter abroad. Nice car
The black on I posted above was sold as a shell... The guy was going to use it as the basis for an 037... I always wondered if he finished it.

Hi All,
I have a lovely Series 2 Spider, it's been in my family since it was new, 49k on the clock now and all original, never restored, love it to bits.

Very nice, I always preferred the S2 wheels... In fact I had a set on my S1 for a while, then a guy in Japan spotted a picture on my web site and made me an offer for them that I could not refuse! the ones with the oval bolt recesses are very rare as they were specific to the Monte-Carlo. they cost a fortune to send but he was happy to pay!I have a lovely Series 2 Spider, it's been in my family since it was new, 49k on the clock now and all original, never restored, love it to bits.
I also had an ANSA exhaust on mine, but for some reason it continually cracked, so I swapped it for a CCS one.
Thanks, indeed they are rare, I know some owners that try and use Beta wheels, sadly the stud patterns are incorrect and although they will go into the car I expect one will encounter issues at some point.
My ANSA has been repaired a few times however as it's as old as the car I'm trying to keep it going.
Nick.

Hi Nick,
re the ANSA... I picked up a tip many years ago about welding exhausts from a guy who restores classic cars. He said if you weld an exhaust it will break again, right next to the weld you have made. I always noticed this was the case on Ford Crossflow manifolds. He said it was because as you welded it, the carbon from the soot on the inside was absorbed into the weld, and made it very brittle, hence it cracked again very quickly.
What he did was clean the inside of the pipe where it had cracked with a flap wheel to remove all the carbon for an inch either side of where it was to be welded. If needed he removed a section of pipe. done this way they didn't crack again!
The other thing he did was to have them shot blasted (shot, not sand) which stress relived them after welding. He also had them aluminium sprayed which made them look nice and gave great corrosion protection. Over the year I have had quite a few manifolds and exhausts done like this, and once done, they last a long time!
I think this references the process he used on exhausts...
