I cut down a load of fig leaves / branches from the back garden. It's too bushy to go in the recycling bin, so off I trot to the local 'recycling centre' (née dump rolleyes) in my ancient pick-up. But no - 65 quid a tonne a mate that'll cost ya. No vans, at all, allowed. Unless they pay. Even though I'm a resident, and pay 126 fking quid a month for all the benefits and housing costs for the feckless amenities provided by the wonderful borough.

You know, it was a pisser when they started getting all stupid about 'building materials' and charging you for daring to try and chuck out your kitchen cupboards & whatnot, but now you can't even take fking cuttings. I had to drive 20 miles to fking watford to get rid of it and where's the sense in that - that borough's costs must be higher than it would be as people in my borough drive there in vans to get rid of st. Plus I killed the environment to get there.

I seriously felt like tipping the crap on the side of the road like every other fker. Plus I wasted two hours of my life running around.

thanks to all the 'powerfully built Company directors ' (aka 'roid head self employed tradesmen) who took the mickey by using HWRCs to dispose of their trade waste ...

most LAs have a very strict policy, some are more sensible than other operating permit schemes or a 'ticket' scheme ( you can have so many visits for free ) for privately owned none trade vans / pickups or trailers ( either in general or above a certain arbitrary set of dimensions)

A couple of years ago taking a pickup to our local tip was nearly impossible.

For some reason now they're not bothered at all. It's definitely better than it was before this policy change.

Ours are sensible I take my van in and it's ok as long as what I'm dumping doesn't relate to my business.

Break it up and put it on your garden. We have had several hundred tonnes delivered and spread on next years potato fields

OP, top marks for having a great pickup and doing the decent thing of disposing of your cuttings properly.

My local tip wouldn't let me dump the contents of my old garage. Stuff like old wing mirrors, old car parts etc. They decided I was dumping commercial rubbish.
I wasn't in my work van, in a car too.

So I went home, put it in bin bags, went back and dumped it that way!

I our area the dump it site was terrific. I scrapped an Astra which they even lifted the shell of the trailer for me and crushed it, we make money on scrap.
So now someone had dumped some no descript gas bottles in the park where I live, so put them in the car and took them to the dump. "can't leave them" Why? "Trade waste" so I explained what had happened, still no. So took them home and cut them up took them back now fine!

Called council and explained that in my opinion we were encouraging fly tipping. "research shows this is not the case as people with things they cannot dispose of at our sites simply get a skip in"

I now regularly see fly tipping which we now pay huge sums to clear up, so another piece of bad research.

My tip is not too bad, but they inspect everything you dump. I resorted to big bags as a result but then they started opening them too!

I tend to go very late just before they shut when they are more keen to go home than check what you are dumping.

I had exactly the same problem with old computer bits. OK I have loads that I have accumulated over the years but it's bloody annoying.

The local dump decided to charge £3 or £5 (cannot remember which) for cars and oddly everyone stopped going there and went to the main site instead.

Two months later it closed.

My LÀ issued me a book of one-trip-a-month tickets to go to the local tip in my F150. I had to sign a form saying it wasn't for commercial purposes. Maybe worth checking?

In our local ASDA on Wednesday and Saturday a council truck turns up to collect garden waste.

On Saturdays a regular truck turns up as well for any other rubbish.

All free of course.

Don't know where you live, but they are taking the piss.

went to my local tip with garden rubbish in the van , and get the "no vans allowed unless you buy a permit", "so I can drive back home .put it in the boot of my car ,drive back here and put it in that skip" -- " yes "says the little sh!t . Whats all that about - my rubbish is going in that skip so why should it matter in what type of vehicle it arrives in

It stops people taking the piss which is fair enough. If someone was taking van after van wouldnt you feel a bit aggrieved that you're paying for a business to dispose of their waste when every other business is paying themselves?

Got caught with a trailer which was 'too big' for the laws of the tip, but as it was quiet common sense won the day!

If you drive in and tip, what can the little st do? apart from sweet Fanny Adams.
