Folks, looking for some feedback on garage floor coatings, specifically epoxy. Best brand for the money, ease of application & performance over time.

Cheers

I used this stuff,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-PACK-EPOXY-RESIN-GARAG...

It looks good, but even after leaving it 1 month to cure properly and that it was perfectly fine to walk on the car lifts the paint when left sitting.

If i were doing it again i would tile it! took two full days to apply two coats and 5 litres of paint, tiles are more expensive but easier and will last longer.

Lifting was a concern, which is why I thought epoxy 2-pack would be better, but seems you have some issues.

Tiles would be good, but the budget won't stretch to them as it's just under 110sqm.

Thanks for the feedback

I followed the instructions properly, prepped the floor, it was already painted as well so in theory better adhesion.

Like i say normal use is fine no lifting but i now have tyre patches where the car sits and blue paint on the tyres!

Too late for you now Duka, but if I was doing a garage floor again I'd try coloured cement on it. I've had to paint my garage floor every 3 years due to the paint sticking to the tyres. I thought I'd painted it properly first time but nope...

Paint has lifted under the spots where the wheels sit in the garages in my last 2 houses. I repainted the floor again last week but this time will be laying two strips of rubber matting under where the wheels go - as long as I keep it on the strips then should be fine. I'm waiting another few days before starting to put stuff back into garage to give paint more time to harden.

I'm using this stuff: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FINE-RIB-RUBBER-MATTING-...

Get it done before it gets too cold if the garage is unheated. I painted a floor in January/February with distastrous results due to the cold and not knowing that the stuff won't set properly without a bit of heat. I had to hire a spaceheater just to get it to set after a week.

Thanks for the info folks

The rubber/PVC flooring looks good (& I'm swaying towards it), but just thinking how do you "seal" the joints to ensure no water ingress below?

I too have had a bad experience with an epoxy floor coating. It has started to come up in heavy traffic areas and the areas under the car tyres.

The rubber floor option looks great but I was wondering if anyone knows if I will need to remove the epoxy floor coating before laying?

Also, anyone know of a good company to install this in the Glasgow area?

Steve,

I was going to suggest special garage tiles and that rubber one does look good.

Alternative here. Black and white chequered flag would be obvious (I think Charlie Fleming did this) but I think I'd want a single colour to make it easier to spot dropped M3 cap screws and the like.

I've also been wondering about ali chequer plate or similar (sore on the poor knees frown) and spotted this in another thread.

Let us know what you end up with.

Eric,

Whilst the tiles look good & are thicker (7mm) budget doesn't stretch that far. However any moonlighting consultancy work that you might have to fund such a purchase greatly appreciated!

Did you apply on a new floor or an existing one?

was the primer a definite requirement from paint manufacturer or just good practice from your side?

They recommended it, so I went for it.. dunno if you would need it but didn't want to take the chance.. I had 60m2 to cover and I think it was about a grand for the paint and primer..

The only thing I can add is that if painting the floor make sure you leave the garage door wide open. It was slightly wet outside the day I did mine, so I only left the door partially open, and ended up with a world class 'hangover' for my troubles. And the paint has lifted.

Errmm, what about just leaving it without painting?!?! I had a new garage build 4 months ago and was planning to do something to the floor (smooth finished concrete) but the builder (garage specialist firm) said most of their customers leave the floor as it is?!?!
