Hi Guys

Having used the AA a few months ago they AA man said they wont collect cars that have broken down on a track day. Has anyone had issues in the past? seems a bit of a pain in the arse!

Thanks

I believe if you breakdown on the road outside the track you are ok?

AA will give cover so long as it's a non-competitive event, it's in their T&Cs but even a lot of their patrols don't know about it. I used to carry a copy of it with me before I started towing to trackdays.

RAC is different I think, no cover from them.

The AA T&C's state

Participation in sporting events:
Assistance for vehicles broken down as a result of taking part in any “Motor Sport Event”
including, without limitation, racing, rallying, trials or time-trials or auto test. However, for the
avoidance of doubt, the AA does not consider “Concours d’elegance” events, track test days
for road-legal vehicles or rallies held exclusively on open public highways where
participants are
required to comply with the normal rules of the road, to be Motor Sports Events.

So yes they will pick up from the pits / paddock of a track.

The RAC T&C's state they won't.

Some of this also depends on the driver assigned to the job, the people in the call centre may have to follow these guidelines to the letter but the driver actually responding might not really care.

Whilst I was talking to a RAC driver he stated he had no issues with collecting from the paddock but his issue was...

"If you park up outside the track and spin a yarn he will probably tell you to bugger off but if you are open and honest then in reality he will perform the job no questions asked."

The issue doesn't exist if you have trackday cover as they will collect from anywhere on or off track

I was recovered from the paddock at Castle Combe by the AA no questions asked in 2004. One of our customers was picked up in 2009 and another in 2012 at our track day there. Doesn't seem to be a problem.
