I'm looking for a first aid course, but not a typical one.

I'm going on a 6-month family trip, mostly to developing countries with longer distances to hospitals over poor roads. With that in mind, something which covers such things as stopping bleeding, clearing airways etc although I'm open to ideas about what I need.

These sound like typical First Aid course items, you probably need something a bit more in depth covering stitching wounds, use of drugs (antibiotics etc), transporting patients etc?

Plenty of courses if you google it (I went with "Tropical Paramedic Course")

I have no experience at all, but this one looks to be pitched at the right level. You'll need a standard first aid at work certificate first, but that shouldn't be a struggle.

You need a survival course and a first aid course.

http://www.truewayssurvival.com/school/medical-sur...

and something like this

http://www.truewayssurvival.com/school/uk-survival...

or the 5 day course.

Might be worth giving them a call and seeing what they suggest.

no affiliation etc

Seriously? I'm an experienced qualified Paramedic and I'd find some of that course hard going (if it's done right).

Just get yourself on a decent First Aid course, travel insurance and if you are really worried, a satellite phone (so you can always call for help no matter where you are).

And that's why I prefaced my comment with "I have no experience at all." Someone with a lot more experience came along and told me I was talking out of my ahole. The beauty of PH. wink
