Howdy PH massive

I am looking at second hand PS Vitas. I will be mainly using it to play PS4 remotely. Couple of questions.

1. Slim or Original?
2. Which memory card?

Thanks.

Original and the biggest card you can afford.

I'm still amazed at how poorly the Vita is generally perceived; it's a fantastic bit of hardware and has some really unique games. That it can be used to remote play PS3/PS4 is just a bonus.

Everything I've played on it looks no different to a good PSP game - is it demonstrably better in any way? I've got an original launch day (from Japan) PSP, and a PSP Go. Can't see why I would buy a Vita as well. It just doesn't look like the tech's moved on that much in ten years.

Obviously, it depends a lot on the individual games. Stuff like Uncharted and Killzone look fantastic, certainly well above anything you'd see on PSP, but even some of the more unique titles like Tearaway really show what sets the Vita apart from anything else.

That said, it may be an upgraded port of an old PS2 game but Persona 4 Golden is reason enough to own a Vita as far as I'm concerned. At least, it was for me.

Having owned a PSP and Vita, Vita is far superior in graphics and game play. Whether it’s worth upgrading just for Vita games is a personal choice, with PSN+ you get free games every month, and the remote play for both PS3 and PS4 is amazing.

does anyone know if you can buy a cover which makes it more comfortable to hold? I have quite big hands and it can get very uncomfortable to play anylonger than 20 mins at a time.

I have similar problems with extended play on Vita, not due to size, more so just having head down into a mobile device so long, not sure there is anything that can improve the comfort, the latest Vita might be better being a refined shape and lighter, but lacks the OLED screen though.

For remote play purposes I would of probably either chosen a new Xperia Z3 (phone/tablet) which has Dual shock 4 attachment and remote play (so no button issues) or considered Playstation TV that is coming out next month (tiny roku style vita box) assuming you have another screen in the house which will allow remote play with a normal Dualshock 3 controller (though strangely not Dualshock 4).

Difference is the z3 tablet is around £350 and I got the vita for less than £100.

I did consider it but I would want it as a tablet as well, which is pointless as I have an iPad.

I have found these:

for a fiver I may give it a go.

This has massively improved the Vita for me. It makes it so much easier to use. I would highly recommend one for anyone with a Vita.

Any recommendations on the game front? I bought a Vita in Canada about 2 years ago and to be honest, have probably only used it for about an hour. I quite fancy dusting it off and using it on the 1hr commute each day.

I mainly play racing games so any recommended titles?

It will depend on what kind of games you like, there's not much high-budget stuff, barring the obvious like Vita versions of Uncharted, Killzone or remasters on existing titles like Soul Sacrifice Delta, Final Fantasy X/X2 HD, Muramasa Rebirth or Persona 4 Golden. There are also collections of PS3 titles like God of War collection, Ratchet and CLank collection, Sly Racoon Collection and Vita is also not short on niche titles; Tearaway, Little Big Planet, Conception 2, Deception IV, Atelier series, DanganRonpa, Dragon's Crown, Toukiden, Virtue's Last Reward... Plenty more oddities I'm sure I've forgotten to mention!

There's good indie support too, with stuff like Rogue Legacy, TxK, Child of Light, Velocity 2x, OlliOll, Luftrausers, and that's just the recent stuff I can recall.

I haven't tried a racing game on Vita yet, so can't suggest one!
