Amsterdam - Xmas

Me and my girlfriend are both 20 and are planning on visiting Amsterdam around Christmas time.

I'm with my girlfriend, so naturally the seedier side of the city isn't the main focus, the focus instead is on the 'tourist' part of the city. Has anyone been and has any tips or advice?

We have flights booked, yet no hotel, so on that note does anyone have any recommended hotels?

We're looking to stay for 4 nights or so.

Tripadvisor is a good place to gather some research on what takes your fancy, where to go, where to stay etc.

I work in Amsterdam (well Leiden) a few times a month, yet I have not made it to do any tourist things in about 2 years, so cannot help on that front I am sorry.
