it's true that from today you don't have to display a tax disc on your front windscreen

BUT - (little known fact)

if your paper tax disc is still current, i.e. runs out after 30/9/14 then it should be displayed in the rear window until it expires

If you currently have a paper tax disc can you bin it after then 1st October or does it still need to
be visible on the vehicle?

you can bin from 1 October as no need to display from then

According to everything I've read, including this page from Autocar ( http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/all-cha... ) you can remove the tax disc if you have any months remaining - the law that requires you to display a tax disc has been removed from today.

I believe that the similar law that prevents you from displaying anything that looks like a tax disc but isn't - for example a historic tax disc - has also been removed.

What if you have tax but display a disc that's out of date?

it's a transitory measure until all tax discs have expired

provisions have to be made by yourself - a tax disc holder, rather like those on motorbikes, has to be permanently fixed to the rear deck of the car

Yes, but it was so obvious it was a waste of bandwidth, then you repeated yourself. And I'm with the badger.

So if i fix a motorbike to the rear deck of my car (and the tax disc is attached to that), I'll be ok? wink

no that would obstruct rearward vision

but I suppose if you put it so that you could still see out of one or more external mirrors then that might be OK - but I'm no legal expert

yes, trying not to upset the ancient befuddled minds that frequent this forum, some believe any old twaddle they read - ethanol, ZDDP, lead, octane, EU/DVLA/Government got it in for them personally, I have to allow for these sensitive and fragile minds

Maybe you need to come up with something more obvious to indicate that you are attempting humour...
