Ok its a September 2000 Mk1 Tuscan. The dipped headlights work fine. The high beams do not come on either when 'flashing' or on high beam selection. The blue light on the panel illuminates ok so I guess the selector stalk is working.

Now it could be that both lamps have blown simultaneously but unlikely. What else is there to check before hauling the inner bonnet off and changing the lamps?

The owners manual pointed me to a 15 amp fuse on the panel in the drivers foot well but that looks ok. There is no mention of a high beam relay anywhere only a dipped beam one.

Anywhere else to look for a simple answer before I faff around with the bonnet?

Try this?

Main beam fuse given as #13, with dipped beam as #10.

IIRC, I had a similar problem - it was the fuse, the blades had become slightly oxidised, drew more current, blew fuse. Check you've got the right one.

The fuse appears ok so it looks like the bonnet is coming out at the weekend to see if any wiggly volts are reaching the lamps.

(somehow this post was posted twice so I have removed the duplicate. Don't you just love IPads mad)

Okay, Okay!!

Id also check.....if fuses are good,, the plugs on the rear of the light units.
Bit liable to dampness in the pod....worth a clean of the contacts/spray with contact cleaner on the lamp spade connectors.
