What has suddenly prompted the Beeb to start using the word autumnal?

Radio 4 seemed to suddenly start using it last year and this year BBC TV Weather.

I find it oddly jaring, we don't use the words springnal, summernal or winternal so wtf are they using autumnal?

It's better than "autumny" (see also "summery", "wintery" and "springy").

Much as a like a good bash of the beeb, "autmumnal" has been around for donkeys years.

Can't say I've noticed any sudden upsurge in usage.

Would it aggravate you even more if they started dropping vernal and aestival in there too....? biggrin
