Welcome back Jenson?

I bet from Melbourne 2000 to Sochi 2014 there's easily been over 40 drivers, which is what I am assuming he's getting at.
92 - apparently!!!! http://www.4mula1.ro/formulaone/custom#&type=a...
As a big Jenson fan it occurred to me today while chatting about F1 with a colleague that I'd rather see him leave F1 now. Chances are he won't win another title unless the 2015 McLaren is very very good. However if he could land a Porsche WEC drive I reckon he has a much better chance of winning LeMans. Who was the last driver to win that and an F1 WDC? G.Hill?

I agree, he should take the situation into his own hands and try for the Porsche drive, after all, he must know that he's not McLaren's favoured option, Alonso is.Yes, G.Hill was the last F1 WDC to win LeMans, and is still the only winner of the triple crown of F1 WDC, LeMans and Indy500.
The list of F1 and LeMans winners is a short one, G.Hill, Rindt, Hawthorn and P.Hill who won LeMans 3 x times.
He's already out scored Hamilton as a team mate over their time together. I'd imagine he wants to go head to head with Alonso, try to do the same and then sit back and smirk if he does, another WDC to his name or not that would be the two biggest scalps in today's F1....
To my mind he wants the F1 seat and will get it. The delay is simply Mclaren giving their drivers no other options so they can get the deal more on their terms.

That's an interesting stat. I didn't realise that. So you're saying that during the period Hamilton's they were together at McLaren Button scored more points, I'm surprised. But if it's a fact so be it. RichB said:

Tis true, over 2010-2012 JB scored 672 points to Lewis' 657.However, it's slightly misleading as Lewis placed higher in the championship 2 out of those 3 seasons.

And I seem to have in mind that Lewis had a few mechanical DNFs.. Not to mention one or two which were awful team calls. However, it's slightly misleading as Lewis placed higher in the championship 2 out of those 3 seasons.

Team calls can be over-ridden by a driver off the back of their race craft- JB has consistently shown an ability to make the right decision at the right time. The famous Canada drive was a case in point.

Points is only a decent measure if you win the whole thing (and then you don't care about how many you got, just that you had more than the next guy).
At the end of your career you count up Championships, Wins, Pole positions (podiums might be in there somewhere), but a long way down the list is how many points you won.

Or alternatively, one of the most underrated drivers in F1 took on the most highly rated and matched him punch for punch over 3 seasons... Alonso just about managed half a season before he had a bh fit and that was with Lewis the rookie not the more experienced driver.
I think most people on this thread rate Jenson highly. RichB said:

And most of us on the sidelines too I'd wager. Why wouldn't you, as a team mate he must be most annoying! No rap star image, no petulant Latino, no moody Fin, just a normal British bloke who enjoys keeping fit and who will probably out point you throughout the season. No razzmatazz just a guy driving better. In defence of Kimi, it's generally said that he's a very talkative, fun to be with, guy when he doesn't have a camera or a microphone stuck in his face.
I rather like Jenson. For him, I think, the question if he doesn't get a drive will be how to wind down, come off the adrenaline, and adjust to a more normal (but very rich) life.
It's still something most folk would envy!

You get the point I'm making though The post a few above this sums it up perfectly, the normal British bloke, no glitz, glamour or anything like that, he just turns up does the job with the car he's got and ends the season making supposedly quicker team mates look at best equal and as with most of his seasons in F1 suddenly looking very second rate. He's the proof that the nice guys don't always finish second.
