I'm conflicted on JB. On one hand, I like him, and I'd love for him to stay at McLaren. But if McLaren aren't competitive enough then really he's just 'seeing out his years' in F1 there.

On the other hand, I'm rather annoyed that his management wasn't already having meaningful discussions with other teams earlier in the year.

(I have zero interest in LeMans/WEC/etc, and if he ends up there it will be the worse possible outcome.)

I'm being entirely selfish here. I don't follow other motorsport because it's just too dull for me.

FWIW, when he chooses to retire from racing, I'm sure he'll have a great time doing whatever floats his boat.

Much as I'm an F1 fan, I have to ask if you have actually watched other motorsport - many are a lot less dull than F1 can be.

RedBull were having these problems in March and won a race in June.

"It leaves 34-year-old Button and his team-mate Kevin Magnussen in limbo until Dennis and his fellow shareholders deliberate over who should partner the returning Fernando Alonso from next season."

I know Alfonso is expected to drive for Ron but that's not been confirmed yet has it?

Yes, but only MotoGP/SuperBikes has any real thrill. (Although bikes just don't do it for me.)

I'll admit that even single-make racing can be entertaining, but not enough to commit time to watch. And anything that's just run against the clock makes me lose interest very quickly.

A st engine in a decent chassis, they were 50% of the way there. I'll wager that McLaren have neither of those anymore.

One swallow doesn't a summer make. Besides, I'm pretty sure his coming 3rd in one race when his team mate came second is what his career in F1 is hinging on. Plus if LH hadnt of retired, DR not been disqualified and FA hadve finished, no McLaren would've been on the podium.

Odd; you think you know me better than I do? Even odder: the audience figures show I'm in the majority.

Face facts: if JB goes off to any other branch of motorsport, he will simply disappear off the radar of most F1 watchers.

That may be true, however all it proves is that the majority are ignorant, not that all other forms of motorsport are boring wink
