So, we have 4 cats who currently don't go out. 2 are just over a year old and the other 2 are 7 months. As several cats have been knocked down on our road I can't bring myself to let them out on their own. Plus 4 extra cats may wreak havoc on the neighbours gardens!

So I want to turn my garden into their space. Just been searching for ideas and saw this.

Has anyone used the product as it looks pretty much exactly what I need. As I have a newish build all I would need is this product - perfect even down to the measurements!

http://www.protectapuss.co.uk/protectakit-cat-fenc...

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

And keeping a small British business going is appealing too. smile

wavey I'll be watching this with interest, as once we buy, we will want to cat proof so that Beauty can explore outside.

My only concern with the one pictured is the overhang. You'd not get birds etc visiting your garden anymore, or else they could end up getting trapped in there frown

I'm betting your local carpenter/handiman could rig something similar up cheaper, with less overhang.

I could have sworn I started a thread on this a while ago but I can't find it, maybe I just hijacked someone else's... Anyway, we're about to do an extension and renovate our back garden, we also have two cats who we'd like to allow out into the garden only so I was asking around and someone suggested this:

http://www.katzecure.com/

We'd seen the protectapuss stuff online and my wife didn't like the look of it, said it would be like having a garden in a prison compound, but she likes the aesthetic of the katzecure stuff better so we're going to try that. Can't comment on the effectiveness yet but the theory seems sound to me.

I'm considering this unless I can find anything better.

Ah yes katzecure. It may look nice but be ready to sit down when they quote you the price. I only have a small square city garden & two sides of it are walls of my house. The other two sides that are fence & would need the system measure 4 metres & 6 metres. Katzecure wanted £1300. I nearly passed out with shock. We worked out that if they did my mums garden which is a pretty regular size it would cost £8000. We'll be doing the garden ourselves.

Well based on the post before yours, how much did it cost?!

In all seriousness, if you wouldn't mind sharing the dimensions and resulting price that would be appreciated.

You can do it yourself and for much much less than that. Posted some links right above. All of them are made by the owners themselves. We still need to do some alterations in our pen. We are going to take down our two apple trees that don´t give us good apples anyway, and put them up inthere. Also. we plan to exspan the pen by 30 m2 or so, which is going to cost us app £ 80. So total price for 90 m2 pen will come up to app @ 360. My husband can make this sort of thing alone!! Cats are happy, and then it is up to me to what´s going into it: Flowers, plants and two apple trees.

OK, thread resurrection.

I had Katzecure round to quote for my garden last night. I knew it would be expensive but even I was shocked at how expensive. Having said that they offer to come back and fix any weak points should your cat find a way out. If they cannot cure it then they offer to remove the product and offer a full refund. After 18 months you can pay a monthly £10 maintenance fee and they come and rectify any warped poles or broken bits, call out without this is apparently in the region of £75.

My garden is 13.2m by 8m by 24m up to the gate. Securing all three sides of fence, gate, shed and garden features where applicable with trellis over the top if too close to the fence and the cats could gain height and jump over.

The price was £3,800 approximately. But then what price can you put on the safety of your much loved pets, 5 of them in my case.

Can you tell me how it is working out for you and have any of your cats managed to escape?

Not really conducive to the humans enjoying the garden as well...

And thread resurrection again.

Katzecure installed their product last week, and whilst as said it is expensive it is working.

None of my 5 cats have so far managed to get out despite giving a good testing. It looks good, it has helped secure a security weak point for burglers in my garden and my cats are happy to be out in the sunshine again.

So far a satisfied customer.

Why not?. The only space we have lost is that required by the poles and the fence. Thats roughly 5 cm of space.

As for what you put into it. There MUST be something for the cats. This os an absolute MUST. Otherwise you Will most likely run out of happy cats and luck faster Than you can count to 1

This is what it looks like today. We plan to open the sides and extend it to the entire garden on this side of the House. Just not with fence on top. It will be open But with a 40-50 cm bend at 45 degrees the top

Thats fantastic to hear. Apologies for not answering your question in April.

Our system has held up really well with no signs of wear or decay.

One of our boys (who is a veritable Houdini) did manage to escape - he is an incredible jumper. I caught him luckily, and Katzecure came out immediately and raised the system, no quibbles. Very pleased with the service.

Nice to see people taking responsibility for thier cats and confining them to thier own property. Cats are a rather contentious issue in some places and can be a bloody nuisance to those who don't share the owners love of the little darlings.

Fortunately (for me) it's much easier to dog proof a garden.

Our neughbours are VERY happy that they dont have to remove poop from our 5 furry family members from their garden and baby boy's sandbox.

We are happy they are as safe as they can be. We dont have to worry about abuse by crazy idiots, traffic, eating poor catfood from some cat happy people etc.
