Heading down to New Milton/Barton-on-sea area on the weekend. My grandparents used to live there many years ago and fancy a trip down memory lane with the missus.

Was thinking of grabbing some food in a nice pub before heading back to Berkshire. Any recommend anywhere worth visting. Nothing fancy but decent food and a half decent location would be nice.

Recommendations?

I always highly recommend this place: http://www.themillatgordleton.co.uk/restaurant/ It's very near to New Milton.

It's my favourite haunt, the owner and all the staff are lovely, service is first class and the food is amazing. I've recommended it to a few people on PH and they've all loved it.

Go during the day, take a walk around the gardens (all of it), check out the herb gardens, the Victorian swimming baths, the river and the old mill. Also make sure you saw hi to the ducks. They'll either be in the river or around the back of the mill entrance in the duck house. smile

It's not too fancy, you can go wearing jeans and have a causal lunch there, but on the other hand you could go wearing a suit. They do a reasonably price Sunday lunch.

If/when you book say that Dan & Ash recommended it to you, (and make sure you book, you won't get a seat if you walk in) and do let us know how it was, if you do go!

Id 2nd that. Had an amazing meal there. Its reasonably priced for the service and food you get. Best place in the forest that I have been to.

Or there's The Old Oak at Bank, near Lyndhurst. Probably worth booking although you might be lucky.
