Currently Ronaldo over Messi for me, but only by a whisker.

Two things for me make the small difference; 1. Ronaldo is a better all-rounder, and because of that, 2. Can carry a team almost single-handedly. Messi has been surrounded by good players and hasn't had to push himself and extend his own abilities like Ronaldo has.

All time? Pele and Zidane top the tree for me; Pele for sheer achievement and ability, ZiZou for the way he played and changed the way the game could be played - his sheer technical ability and bewildering level of ball-control will, IMHO, never be bettered - even watching a mesmerising Messi dribble pales when you subsequently watch a ZiZou trick or flick, or even just a simple pass - he made the game simple and beautiful.

Notable mentions for Cruyff, Best, Moore and Banks; the latter three were all highly rated and most admired by none other Pele.

Maradona? A proven cheat and drug taker - despite his footballing ability can he stand comparison to the names above?
Agree with that.

Pele and Georgie would be two of my top three without doubt, but just can't pick the third from half a dozen possibles.

The recent period where Barcelona were consistently superb is (around the '10-'11 season), for me, the only period where Messi has been better than Ronaldo.

15 goals in 7 La Liga matches this season. That's more than every premier league TEAMS except Chelsea scored in seven games. Truly astonishing stuff and such a loss to our league, he certainly won't return :-(

But with the exception of about 2 other teams in the league, the rest of them are utter pants. At least in the premier league on any given day the mid-table and bottom teams can give the top tier teams a run for their money.

The head to head next weekend will sway the balance a little between Messi and Ronaldo. It will be fascinating to watch!

Maradona a drug cheat? it's not wise to blame some players for this and not others. Messi was pumped full of growth hormone by the Barcelona doctors as a kid. Ronaldo's physique magically changed over 8 weeks in the off season about 7 years ago. There is a lot of money in football, much more than Olympic sprinting or Road cycling!

This is my previous post on that topic, and of course lets not forget Ronaldo tore every premier league defence apart too.

Villarreal
Espanyol
Valencia
Seville
Real sociadad.
Deportivo.

Plus the teams you mention.

I'd say any of those and probably more would comfortably hold there own in the Premiere.

The same English teams qualify for the Champions League almost every year and at least half the table are in a relegation scrap until the last couple of games.

I reckon half the teams in the Prem would struggle in La Liga.

Still that's another argument.

Ronaldo better all rounder? Not for me. I think Messi has a strong case of being the best passer of the ball in the game. And the rubbish about Messi being surrounded by quality doesn't make sense, Ronaldo has hardly been playing for a bloody pub team for the past few years!

And the quality of La Liga has changed complelty. It's just not true there's only a couple of good teams.

The Prem is hardly stacked full of quality is it! Look at Sunderland hehe

55 Champions League goals in 55 Champions League games for Ronaldo tonight, and also goal number 70 in champions league, Raul is number one with 71. Messi on 69.

Portugal vs Argentina on the November 18th too.

Hard to say whether One is better than the other - who would I rather watch for one game - Messi, without doubt. His turn of speed is incredible ...Ronaldo is great as well as well, but Messi is just beautiful to watch. Whereas Ronaldo is just beautiful!

Liverpool have scored 13 goals in 10 league games. Ronaldo has scored 17 goals in 9 league games.

We have never seen scoring at this level.

Agreed but La Liga is like Scottish Football with sun.

He certainly wasn't that prolific in the EPL - I do understand he was not quite as accomplished back then.

He holds the record for most goals scored in a 38 game EPL season.

Along with Shearer and Suarez. So a few people hold the record.
