Interesting thought ; OK , let's play we've won £K 100 in the lottery and you have to spend it on a Porsche - which one ? This is much harder than 18 months ago as prices have moved so much - let me think ..... smile

She's lovely P50 if a bit too chintzy in this spec but that was the 80s for you. Huge shoulder pads and Wham! £50k her money in the real world and I'd buy the Dick Lovett G50 if they were both £50k even though it has more miles as I much prefer the spec.

The car belongs to one of the guys who runs H and I don't think he really wants to sell it hence the stupid price.

'm not disputing it's a humdinger of a machine but I'm thinking these dealers are all getting a bit excited with themselves.

I suppose the logic is if a decent restored car is up for 70-80 then what price for a uber low mile original?

Well it can't be less can it so by default it has to be more!

So there you have it children, a 92,000pounds common garden 3.2 sport coupe.

You're better off with a nice £45 grand car that you can actually use as this thing will be harmed by the mileage going on. if you can find one - hang on, now I'm saying that a really good 3.2 G50 at £45k is cheap?!! WTF?! four months ago that £50k ovno G50 silver coupe with 40k miles seemed expensive!

Bunch of arse I tell thee!

(Was out in mine yesterday and bloody hell they are good REALLY GOOD!)

The silver with black leather 41k mile car was top money at £50k.

Too many people getting carried away with the hype.

The overpriced car list that aren't selling is getting longer. Hexagon £92k (blue), PS £80k (silver), Early911 £55k (black). They haven't sold because the market thinks they're overpriced.

These prices make cheaper cars look cheap, but they're not.

Agreed. The market votes with its wallet.

But it seems the 308/328GTB which was the quasi rival to the 3.2 has also gone through the roof.

It's all a load of old nonsense. Trouble is decent unrestored 3.2 coupes simply do not come up. Likewise original RHD 964 manual coupe.

So we seem to have a stalemate! If you own any classic car it's 99% not going to be on finance thus owners can stick two fingers up for the cream. The S1 E Type flat floor is big money now. Aston DB's are insane.

I have a 1972 RHD Fiat 500 with 11k miles from new unrestored with a bit of 70's not brilliant minor paint rectification. There is a ceiling to its value. It's not for sale but should I ever wish to sell it, it won't be cheap. But it's a very rare example. Not a welded up 12 owner non matching number heap.

If sellers want to try it on with mediocre machines then good luck to them. It's the same with houses in Zone1/2 London. It's cooled. But Notting Hill will alway be Notting Hill. When that falls out of bed we'll all in deep doggy doo!

But....

There is a lot of monied people around and if they can see a profit then they'll punt. They will also bail if the market starts correcting thus supply/demand will go very up...

Agree. Here's hoping we see a correction, so we get back to true enthusiasts driving these fantastic cars again!

Is it me or is the market cooling somewhat? There seems to be cars hanging around for a while including E30 M3s, GT3s etc. which would have flown out a few months ago.

Possibly. The London property market has cooled and I think it has coincided with the car market. Totally unscientific with the Asian economy on the downturn, is it sustainable?

With an election next year I'd imagine people holding off until they've seen the result and what that means for the economy.

Just wait until the first round of auctions in 2015. Starting with Arizona. This will set the state of the market for the year.

I remember only 6-7 years ago going to look at a Celebration G50 car, 75k miles, good condition and at £12k. And do you know what, not kicking myself, it just wasn't that special.
I find this SC and 3.2 thing all a little bit silly now. I am sure other will most definitely disagree but it's gone a bit mad of late. I was speaking to a dealer recently who was selling an 87 targa super sport at £34,995 and next to it was an absolute mint black on black, one owner 996 Turbo for the same money. Now I have owned very, very good SC's and 3.2s and have driven a 996 turbo and cannot see why you would buy the older cars for the same money? I bought both mine in the £10k bracket 6-7 years ago and drove them both daily, superb, incredible cars.............for £10k but at £35k....please.
As the thread suggests HYPE. I would have another 3.2 tomorrow and am in the market but I am not paying that money, hence it will probably cool down if people start thinking the same.

I suppose it all fits with the plethora of "vintage" 911 videos popping up all over the place, adding to the fever. Picture the scene, sunlight rising, trees gently blowing in the wind, guy gently rubs his hand against his vintage, patina'd jeans. He is in his workshop with his file, working to fashion a leather strap for the door pull. He is from Birmingham but now lives in Califronia, oh the dream......the dream. He wipes himself down and CLUNK the door opens and he gets in fires the beast and we are off. He is close to tears as he regails us with stories rich in the very fabric of porsche, as genuine as any pascha pattern. He takes a corner at a heady 45mph, the drama, the noise, the soul........ooooops he has just cum on his patina'd denim. As the thick, warm and as yet coagulated liquid reaches his racing shoes, which Ferdinand gave him personally, he pulls up at the side of the road. He gets out to watch the day begin, with a vista before him more spectacular than mere words could ever convey. This is the dream brothers, this is the life for me........now where that £35k and how do I grow dreadlocks?

No, not Magnus, just one of the omnipresent and ever so sentimental souls who yearns for that deep satisfying throb from their rear mounted, thrusting, aircooled power unit. Indeed, to tease out from the alumni just one character would be churlish at best.
Now if you will excuse me, I am off to turn, with my oil stained and weathered fingers, the slightly yellowed and curled edges of a Porsche manual from a by gone era. I will be perched, ever so precariously on a bar stool, looking down at the pages and then staring woefully into the distance, fixated and fascinated with the wonder, the wonder of the aircooled flat six and all it's glory.

Just ridiculous going to be some serious shirt losing, anybody who would buy a 3.2 for 80k is just plain stupid, and there's nothing more dangerous than a fool with money.
Good luck to them i'll put my mortgage on a serious implosion very soon.
You said that when they were changing hands for £30k smile

I'd pay £50k for this day night long. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... In fact if there were 10 in this condition I'd buy them all and tuck them away.

Edited by IMI A on Saturday 11th October 10:00
At 75K its price is 3x the value of my 993, at 50K that 3.2 would still cost nearly double what my 993 manual C2 is worth.
Compared to my 993, they have in common that they both have full OPC history, Certificate of Authenticity and low ownership. What they don't share is mileage, mines over double of this 3.2. I can see the condition will be better on the 3.2, but it can't be 2 or 3x better.

Is a 3.2 really worth two or three times the price of a 993? I've owned both, and IMO not a chance. I really do think this is madness, well either that or the 993 is seriously under priced.

Edited by Wozy68 on Monday 13th October 10:50
A low mileage concourse 993 C2 is now easily worth £50k day night long. You can't compare your car with a low mileage concourse car in amy meaningful way as your coparing apples with oranges. Concourse does not mean its in v.good condition. It generally means the car is in better than new condition. There aren't many concourse used cars for sale.
I went to see this car today http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Its a lovely honest car but certainly not concourse in my book - God knows when it was last winning concourse events but I'd be v.surprised if it was recently. Forget £74,995 even £50,000 would be top top money for it in my book. Having said that as good cars are getting scarce I'd still buy it for £50,000 but not a penny more. Its certainly no better than the 3.2C I have and in some ways less desirable as it has no sports seats, no short shift, and personally I think black is a better colour but thats just personal preference. For an allegedly concourse car the quality of the paint wasn't brilliant IMO but maybe detail would sort it out. Its had a bit of paint here and there too and some odd small nicks and scratches for an allegedly concourse winning car.
Well a new benchmark set for clean low mileage G50 Carreras Coupes. The Dick Lovett car sold for £75k.
