Hello all,

Could someone please recommend a 'state of the art' bit of kit to help avoid speeding tickets?

I've got a Geodesy for the fixed cameras and a Snooper laser jammer for the mobile units.

The Geodesy can now also incorporate a radar detector, according to the info that Morpheous have recently sent me.

Has anyone actually seen a Laser Jammer work? I'd love to use one, but apart from the legal questions (yeah right, I'm speeding and then I'm worried about legalities!?!) do they actually prevent the police from getting a speed reading on your car as it zooms towards them?

I have a radar detector, and treat it as 'extra information' on top of common sense and my eyesight. The last two are the most important things to prevent you getting stopped for speeding.

Thanks.

Love my Origin Blue i

Points out temporary locations and police favourites as well....calls them Hidey Holes

Obviously only GPS based, so has its limitations.

There's an article on the new Geodesy (GPS plus radar detector) on Pistonheads:-

www.pistonheads.com/speed/default.asp?storyId=5037

bit pricey though.

Noodles, I got a Bell Euro 550 'cos it is/was supposed to be 'the best' a year ago; seems ok but 2 things I'd like to know -
1 - is it the best?
2 - does it cope with SPECS
3 - genuine alternatives if applicable
Cheers.

De, I heard the best two systems were: Valentine and the fixed grill mounted Bell. There's a section on here with tests, possibly in links, I forget now...

I got a Bell 990 a few years back. It was supposed to be as good if not better than the Valantine 1 - depends on which report you read !

Its saved me a quite a few times on new roads. I don't think it picks up SPECS though as I was on the M62 recently and nothing registered as I went throught the series of cameras - just hope I didn't average too much from A to B !

All told I'm pretty happy with the 990. A few false alarms now and then, but used in conjuction with your eyes and brain, it works well.

I had a Bell 550. It was excellent, but no it cannot deal with SPECS as it is an image recognition system that doesn't actually detect your speed using laser or radar. It takes an average of your speed between 2 points by optically reading in your number plate.

RR - I can imagine flying along with half a dozen of these buggers jammed up against the windscreen! Can't you just picture it, with your 600bhp 993RS snorting along at 200mph and then being more pissed off at the technology failing you than MadCop hauling you in and throwing away the keys?!
Another question - do these things work better stuck to the windscreen then on your dash? And how good is their rear detection ability?

Always a gamble, even with 100kg's of gizmo's creaking the dashboard! That's why I love those quiet twisty back roads! You can't beat a decent country lane in the summer!!
