No heaters when driving ?
Discussion
I certainty don't know if the heating systems are the same as Chimaera's,maybe someone does but.....
I had this on my Chim,no hot air when driving but if left just idle or stationary traffic the heat would rise.
This was working in conjunction with the thermostat gauge,i could drive for 1hr and the temp gauge would only just slightly move(58-60) reading on the gauge cold air. If stopped for awhile the temp gauge would rise as did the heat.Once on the move again the temp gauge would start to fall back to 58-60 and I would loose the hot air heat.
The thermostat has already been mentioned but Powers sorted mine out and a new 82 deg thermostat + chim heater control box and heater ECU were fitted.
Personally my theory had assumed it was just a Thermostat, but unfortunately not.The temp gauge and heat work perfect now,I can even get cool if required.

Seriously.... Did you change the thermostat before you sent it to power. What apart from cold coolant going round the system then warn coolant providing the heat at idle would be different. Happy to be enlightened. I had this on my Chim,no hot air when driving but if left just idle or stationary traffic the heat would rise.

On a speed six there are two coolant sensors in the head. One for the dash one for the ecu.
Although the heater matrix and associated items are the last thing I haven't changed lol.

It was booked in for a service and manifold gaskets and was on the list of a few things to look at the same time.
They did sort it by adding £400 to my bill(Parts&labor). A phone call would of been nice to at least tell me it's not just a £15 thermostat. But this is something I am hearing/reading quite often,my take on it is that they are so used to handing out such large bills that they don't consider that an extra £400 hurts some people. If I had been told it was this price I would of told them to leave it for now and done as you sugest.
When things like this happen it makes me feel like I fell in love with the wrong brand of car,as I'm classed as a person who loves TVR's but when things go wrong I need a specialist as I can't do it myself(That's can't and don't want to).
It did annoy me and I have a stubborn side to me which means the next service is going elsewhere.
Ok let's make this thread more useful.
Nick,
Do you know why the stepper motor problem manifest only when driving and not at idle.
Tvrjas,
Sorry to hear your tale, I'm still sceptical of the ultimate diagnosis you recieved. Hopefully with other input we can add value to this thread.
. I've recently rebuilt my speed six and I can tell you now, (hence my scepticism) the wife's TT looks like sonething developed by NASA in comparison.

It's the unfortunate position I put myself in having mechanical skills on the scale of 1 and having to put my faith and trust on those that do know.Sorry to hear your tale of rebuild..

I had a similar issue with my MK1 you would get some heat out of the vents when stationary, but when driving would become cold. The heat could have been from the normal heat soak when stationary and the extra air flow when moving cooled the air down again. Any way if I remenber correctly the stepper motor arm was adjusted I don't know how and the heater worked correctly again. Gassing Station | Tuscan | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
