FFS. Does anyone at Hollywood have any original ideas?
Now its going to be a 'new' Ghostbusters with an all female cast (great!) and "star hilarious women". I think we will be the judge of that.

Hah! Only last night we were watching an advert for the new TMNT, and I said to the missus, "if they redo Ghostbusters, I'm going to be very upset."

It's pretty sad that this is becomming the norm rather than anything original.

I had heard it was a sequel with the old actors. Reboot could be good if done properly.

This has been on the cards for 5 years at least - the biggest stumbling block has been getting a yes/no out of Bill Murray.

Originally is was going to be a straight sequel, then it was going to be a half-way house with some or all of the original cast being involved, passing on the torch so to speak - BM sort of said he'd do it, but his character would have to be a ghost or something, then poor old Harold Ramis died - now it seems it's a straight reboot and will probably be st.

It will flop like a pair of saggy elderly balls. Look at the mess they made of Robocop, it had none of the original social commentary, violence or OTT humour that made the original excellent.

Any reboots / remakes will be watered down drivel to try and keep all the parties happy.

My Personal list of hated remakes
Robocop
Godzilla
Planet of the Apes
Psycho
The Pink Panther

Just read about this, as a HUGE Ghostbusters fan I was waiting for a Ghostbusters 3 for decades.

For it to feature all women is nothing but a kick in the face for the fan base.

When Ramis died I accepted that was it, but now to have a whole new cast, with slapstick comedy rather than the dry wit that the original featured is going to ruin the brand.

That said, 5 years ago Bill Murray sat down with Dan and Harold and after 2 days of talks he stormed out, saying that he was only going to do it if it was as good as the first so as not to lessen the films impact.

They later met again to talk on doing an animated film, this was around the time the computer game came out. It would be mostly animated (they were going to go through a portal into the demon world) apparently this was given the go ahead with all agreeing.

Sony were in talks, the Harold died. Now some tt is making a 3rd one WITH WOMEN. I mean come on really!

If they are to make it, do it with Harold as a spook, he doesn’t have to say anything just have an image of him helping them.

Get Eddie murphy in on it as well.

It has been rumoured to be on the starting blocks for decades, usually Dan Acroyd talking some crap that never happens.

There's no reason why women can't be ghosthunters, but surely a film with people chasing ghosts is enough of a gimmick as it is.

Yup, an even bigger chance of it being a complete disaster that misses what was so funny in the original.

I got as far as 'Bridesmaids Director'.....

and stopped reading

Some things should be left alone, but the simple fact is that people born in 1984 (when the original film was released) are hitting 30 years old. Most people under 30 probably don't even know that there was an original Ghostbusters film, let alone watched it.

It'll be woeful, with non of the wit and wry observation of the original. The fact that they are already stating that it will be full of 'hilarious women' only goes to confirm that they will be the complete opposite.

Yep.

Unless you're talking the 2001 Planet of the Apes?

I enjoyed Godzilla.

Yeah the first remakes they made of both.

The recent Godzilla remake looks really good, and the Planet of the Apes prequels I really enjoyed.

I have found a few comedy films with women in quite funny - but I don't think I have ever come across a movie involving all female leads where I have had a "can't stop laughing, guts hurt, tears streaming down my face" moment.

The fact that you have to be told the women will be 'hilarious' is a bad omen. When a movie maker pre-empts the problems and tries to allay the fears of the customer before the movie has even started production - it's never a good sign IMO.

Also - can anyone name a movie involving an all female lead 'team' that was highly successful or well rated? I can't think of many films that feature an all female lead team (especially not in the scifi/action genre), but of those few I can, they were considered average at best. Some that spring to mind:

Charlie's Angels 1 & 2
Sucker Punch
.....erm

a few years ago Etan Cohen was hired as the writer. Before that, Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky were hired. And for years Dan Aykroyd has been saying he has a new script for a new Ghostbusters movie.

Yet it never got the go ahead.

I read tweets that Ernie Hudson wasn't so keen on it, bill doesn't give a fk but I cannot see Dan Aykroyd giving it his approval.

The work he put into the film was immense, I've read and seen interviews and the attention to detail is staggering.

Some news on this. Apparently they are to start filming in June of this year.....and Melissa McCarthy is in talks to take on a "lead role".

I actually quite like her in some of the movies I have seen. She played off against Sandra Bullock quite well in Heat.

I'll reserve judgement - but I still don't see this film working.

They probably wouldn't make a film with leading actors as ugly as murray, akroyd, and ramis nowadays.
