I note that the LHD Testarossa achieved mid nineties at the September RM Auction. Given that it was in an unusual colour, I wonder what a RHD Rossa Corsa with Crema would achieve at Auction.

Any ideas?

For an unusual colour combination such as that, it is unlikely to break the £40k barrier. Had it been Verde Silverstone with caramel. It might move above £50k. Hope this helps.

£80k will get you a really good car.

As far as Cat C & D goes, back in the day some insurers offered a new for old policy over a certain amount of damage to HNWIs. This meant that a lot of cars with relatively minor damage (for a supercar) got written off. It also means that there are some potentially good buys out there for people willing to take the time and effort into looking the history of a Cat C/D car. Obviously take care if buying, but if insurers and finance companies are willing to get involved in insuring and financing these cars how big can the risk be in those cases?

I still think these cars will always be tarnished. I'd not pay even 50% of the retail value of a clean car for a Ferrari on the register. Anyone who does will find it hard to move the car on.

You are really narrowing the resale market buying a recorded car. Not too bad whilst everyone is climbing on the 'investment potential' bandwagon, but then the market turns you'll really struggle to sell it.

There's a big spread for all lhd cars across models, not just Ferrari. Surely what side the steering wheel is on matters far less than the condition of the car if you really want one? Plus the market ahs to be wider if you buy an lhd one too? Only time it weighs against you appears to be some "investment" cars eg CS...again, though, I'd rather spend half the money on an lhd one of them too!

Any update on the Testarossa market?

I'm on the 'look out' - I bought one as my first Ferrari 7 years ago, red, 10k miles and I paid 40k for... I've been lucky enough to have a few other Ferraris since, but still rate the Testa as the car with the biggest 'sense of occasion'. I'm certainly going to need a significantly larger budget this time round.

I had one back in 2003. Bought it for £24k and sold it a year later for £30k after servicing it (£2.5k) and replacing a transformer which had to come from Italy and took weeks (£3k). Its a great looking car, but it drives like a bus and is a million miles away from being a "sports" car. Would never long for another no matter how high prices may go. It simply isn't a drivers car but for posing its great.

Spot on. Since values have gone up, I have noticed how the reviews on how they drive have warmed in equal measure. I had a perfect 10K miler about 10 years ago and I thought it was a poor driver's car. A boulevard cruiser, at best.

It was never sold or promoted as a sports car was it?
It's a GT, something I think they manage to do pretty well.
I've had my 512 on a few decent long Euro trips and it's always been fantastic.
Maybe you got a lemon?

If GT cars are all about going in straight lines, it was top of the class.

My car was far from a lemon...I can assure you...

Interesting hearing other peoples experiences... Since selling my Testarossa I've had a 308, 348, 355 and a 360... All very nice cars, but I still rate my Testarossa as the nicest car to use on the occasion I had the time, don't get me wrong the other cars were/are great. It's all down to personal opinion, but from a styling point of view, I think the Testa is difficult to beat...

Yes from a styling point of view, it's tops. But it drives like a bus, and was only "fun" on the motorway, just like the Diablo as well. Neither were drivers cars but poseurs cars.

I have a ’91 Testarossa.

Although I have never driven a bus, I really don’t understand the comparison. Yes the steering is slow but it needs to be since it lacks power assistance. Once on the move I think it weights up nicely and gives great feel. It also means the car feels stable at higher speeds.

As far as the width of the car is concerned, the car shrinks around you and as long as you are aware of the additional width to the rear the car can be placed very accurately.

Tight and twisty B roads are not the car’s forte. These cars were designed as GT cars not sports cars and are at their best on dual carriageways and motorways.

As far as I am concerned ultimate pace on the road is a totally irrelevant way of differentiating one car from another since the bar has been raised so high that even the most mundane car is now so capable.

Testarossas are only going to go one way.

Well Gentlemen, I am a rare beast in that I own a testarossa and........I own a bus. Now since I own and drive both on a regular basis it seems I am more than qualified to state that the bus drives like....well a bus! And the testarossa like a GT car, not a bus.

Posuers cars? I think that's a bit harsh.
They're not cars for attacking the tight twisties but if you look at their intended use, conscious of the era they came from you can't realistically dismiss them as just a poseur wagon.
Admittedly my 512 is a step after the TR but I've managed plenty of off-motorway "fun" miles in it. In my experience, they're a great GT, I've enjoyed multiple euro trips in mine and have never regretting the option when I've chosen it to get somewhere.
They might not measure up when compared to modern GT's but to dismiss them as nothing more than posuers cars is just rubbish.
