Aaaaaaanyway...

This morning I went to work on my bike (bmw s1000 with an akrapovic full system). Cars hogging the fast lane. I come up behind them, and they pass a middle lane car, who then has about 100 meters of space in front of them.

Does my right-lane-hogger pull over? Of course not. So can you really blame the bike rider for what comes next?

Funny thing is, with a car, I just cant get my head around trying to do what the bike does. The cars power / weight ratio is comparatively st, and its just not fun. Sadly, I live in the real world, and while people talk about supercar this, and hypercar that, I own a cheap bike (10k), and a cheap car, not silly money.

So, in the real world that I live in, I dont even THINK of doing what a bike can do when I'm in my car. I just sit there fuming at the idiot in front of me.

By all means get the really fast car (and pay handsomely to do so). But when you get to a traffic jam, you'll be going nowhere fast.
In Traffic the problem could be down to sloppy drivers, not using their mirrors enough. In Traffic, I try to edge over to give bikers enough room to get by, Bikers don't generally cause hold ups (unless of course they have been knocked off by another sloppy driver, who didn't use the mirror before changing lanes)
As for whether bikes or cars are faster, I guess it depends on the road and road conditions, I had a little ding dong with a biker some years ago, when in the Caterham. I was travelling on a good B road when I came up behind 3 bikes, a couple of what looked 250 - 350`s and a bigger bike. The big bike, was doing OK, but riders of the two smaller ones where swerving from curb to curb, so I guessed they had not seen me. This went on for about a mile at around 40 mph. Then they must have noticed me, because the two smaller bikes pulled to the nearside. I signalled, and went be all of them, and carried on my way. After a couple of bends, I noticed the bigger of the 3 bikes coming round the bend I had just taken, almost laid flat so I moved on a little and we had an interesting few minutes, where he could easily catch me on the straights, but fell quite a way back at every bend, until on one of them, he was laid over so far he caught a peg, and must have had a serious job staying on. I carried on, and then got into traffic, and few minutes later all 3 bikes went sailing past me, I gave the rider of the big bike the thumbs up, to see if he was Ok, but he did not even look at me.

Snetterton.

So how far into the 1.30s? That's a decent time, is that on a standard bike on road tyres?
Snetterton was the first time visit for me with Fleegle and a few others off here, same with the Oulton Video's although that was with R1 Loon and Co.

I.38 at Cadwell with Bridgestone R10's. Same tyres which I used at Cadwell, I keep my Dunlop slicks for foreign TD's. I can knock 2 maybe 3 seconds a lap off with them.

Im no billy bulstter. I don't hang right off because I only have one leg which makes things a bit difficult
hehe I was waiting for the one leg thing to surface biggrin

The fastest road rider I knew only had one leg, he never moved on the bike. Well I say that, I never saw which way he went hehe

Great comeback. Please, tell us more about winning your recent track days?

You see how easy it is to get drawn into a heated discussion when someone says something you don't like or agree with.

Mugello was the last TD I won. Would you like a session by session brief or would you like a summary of the 3 days on track

your laptimes are bullst.

There, i said it.

Ive seen BN fly past me on a 600 doing 1.41's, and was helping him out at cadwell and clocked him on aim transponder at 1.38, myself i have done a 41 on a zx7r, in a modern classic series, so if your doing 44's on a older zx6r youd be winning modern classic races in supersport.
Here you go, just because I'm sick of BN constantly banging on about my slowest video and being called a bullstter, here's a fairly decent lap on my ZX6R G2. Not the quickest but a high 1.44 despite being held up slightly at the hairpin. As you say, it stands up pretty well in that race series, especially given the bike I'm on and the fact I'd done Cadwell once before so you can maybe see why it's a bit galling being called fking slow. Willing to bet I could shave quite a bit off with decent tyres and suspension and with a bit more experience.

Have I been 'drawn in', really?

No. You can spare me the account(s). I have heard it all before. Listening to someone yarn about how fast they were on a track day ranks up there with changing the hand brake cable on an Alfasud.

Watching that video reminds me why I hate sports 600's.

Here is a fairly steady 1.44 lap in an Evo 6

Why do you hate sports 600's? Because they're fast, fun and cheap?

To be fair, that one sounds pretty awful because it runs as rough as old boots. I generally like the sound of 600s and I also like wringing their necks, same with cars really. My car has an R1 engine that also needs to be wrung out to move!

As appealing as meeting you in the flesh sounds, I doubt I'll be doing any trackdays next year. Last bike TD I did was May 2013, that Cadwell one you like so much, as I've been concentrating on car ones. I crashed the CBR and it's still not fixed as I've been working on my kitcar.

If you like though you can buy my ZX6R off me for £700 then go and show me how much faster you can go on it;) Front forks both leak, rear shock is shot to bits and the front end shakes like crazy when you brake (not discs - suspected accident damage as the bottom yoke cracked). It also cant pull much beyond an indicated 150mph but given I'm piss slow, you should have no trouble whipping round a good few seconds quicker on it right?

I'm not even joking, I'd love to get shot of itlaugh

What sort of time would you expect to get on it out of interest? Club together with a few mates and buy it, it'd be fun...you could rub my face in it by cracking the 1.40 barrier.

My "best thing" now would be my kitcar but I don't think I'd be beating you in that! It's technically capable of 1.34s at Cadwell (lap record for the road legal race series) but that's with excellent set up, fancier suspension, less weight and a better driver. I'd be ecstatic with a 1.40 from it.

I have no idea what time I would be able to do jumping on your bike

Can I ask what you would be able to do on it if you fitted good tyres and fixed your leaking forks and broken brakes.

I realise I have made myself look a dhead arguing with you espically about lap times.

There are a lot of people on here that have been on track with me and I am sure they would say that I just ride my bike then get off never mentiong lap times,

The only way I know about any times I have done are when I have been on a chrono day with Focussed Events or have been timed by people watching on track.

I apologise for calling you slow but do not for running wide on the video I looked at first

I can and did get into the 30's with my 600 rr that was standard at the time.

I have no wish to fall out with people,

I do hope you can go to a track this year on your bike while I am there, I am not a thug and would shake your hand either way

Thank you.

I don't know how much quicker I could go either...I suspect experience would make the biggest difference as I shaved 3 seconds off from my first visit to my second with no changes to the bike. I also feel like a dhead for arguing about laptimes...I was never trying to say I was especially fast, I just didn't think I was leaving a lot behind on that bike either as it genuinely is an absolute stter, hence my irritation at being called piss slow. I'd be astonished if it was capable of more than another couple of seconds and certainly the instructor I went out with on that TD suggested I needed a better bike if I wanted to go faster as it looked like it was on the ragged edge the whole time, hence me buying the CBR. Sadly I crashed the bloody thing so I barely got to ride it.

When you start out big gains come fairly easy, it gets harder and harder the longer you do it( trying to improve)

I like the social side of track days, espically the foreign ones

Anyway, It would be cool if you could manage to get your bike sorted and come along to on the the td we have in the biker banter section
