It's my girlfriends birthday in December and I'm looking for a long weekend, or mini break. Is sun on a budget possible?

Or am I better off with a spa, or cottage break. I was looking at £600 -£800 for the two of us. She doesn't want me spending more and just wants something simple and no suprises.

I was thinking a nice cottage with some nice views and pubs is probably more budget appropriate with a cosy fire and no TV, mobiles etc.

Budget is firm as we've already had a holiday and have a number of oversea weddings to attend next year so will have plenty of holidays.

Any locations? Recommendations? Thanks.

For sun in December, im sure Egypt would be within budget. Should be warm and sunny.

Canary islands. We got flights for 2 for less than £250 (Tenerife) so I'm sure you could get some accommodation. Mid 20's in the day and 18-19 degrees at night. Many bars are 1-1.50 euros a pint and food is cheap, compared to home.

Lake District. Have a look at the National Trust website, they have many that don't have TV's.

It might be difficult to get one even now as they seem to book up quickly for peak Christmas period.
