4 Monitors - How annoying is that ?
Discussion
I got myself a 4th monitor today, together with a suitable stand. After some considerable effort erecting the thing I fired up my PC and attempted to configure my fairly new (GTX 770) GPU in surround mode for 2 x 2 monitors. And what do I find ? Nvidia cards don't support 2x2, only 3x1. Thanks very fking much ! And the worst of it is I changed to an NVidia card only a couple of months ago from an ATI card - and what have I now found out ? ATI supports 2x2 - cocks.
It's for both, i.e. work and games. I can configure 2x2 in Windows and Nvidia control panel with no problems and that so far looks quite good. I've never quite got on with 3x1 for gaming so I thought I'd try 2x2. After my initial annoyance I've decided I'll keep with 2x2 for work and just use a single monitor for games.
Plus it does free up some desk space which, again, for work, is good.

Yes, I found out you can do that. Trouble is, I've a nice new 2x2 stand and you can't reconfigure it. So I'me going to mount the top monitors upside down so at least the bezels will match and just use 4 like that and stick with a single monitor for games. It's just annoying that ATI support 2x2 but Nvidia don't.

Sorry for what is probably a really dumb question, but why not just buy a big 4k monitor?
Good question.I originally had three 27" HD monitors (£180 a pop) so buying one more was the cheapest way to get what I wanted (and then of course I found out that Nvidia did not support it (at the time as it now turns out)).
But can you get 4k 54" monitors ? You can get a TV that big in 4k, but I can find any monitors that size.
Ahhh, OK, makes sense.
I don't know how big they go, the lads doing design down the road have a 40" 4k Philips monitor and when they were playing some race game the other day it did look very impressive, in a way a 40" TV just wouldn't, maybe it is because it is right in front of your face?
