Wimped out today
Discussion
I bought my bike for the sole purpose of commuting all year round, rain or shine. It's been cold and frosty of late when riding home at 7am. But I've got muffs and a gaucho fitted so I'm staying warm and dry. The only area I've felt the cold is on my throat but that's because I haven't been wearing a headover.
I do look a bit of a prat though.

3 year old winter gloves and hot grips on today, still cold. When wi someone invent heated brake lever?!! That's why my fingers are cold.
Might have to get some muffs.
Otherwise Astars jacket and termoscud mean everything else is warm!
What always amazed me is that there is a perfectly good heat source sitting under you i.e. the engine and cooling system yet no one has come up with an idea to use this heat to benefit the rider in the winter. Granted I'm sure honda could invent it and it would be vastly overcomplicated if there DCBS or latest C-ABS systems are considered.Might have to get some muffs.

You just need some way of piping the heat to the rider or the parts of the bike you want to heat and a way of controling how warm that bit gets!
Guessing 'free' electrical power was easier solution all round.
Anyway felt a bit warmer today on the commute in.. not frost to be seen! I really do have to get something for my neck and chin before it gets proper cold as I can't find my old under helmet balaclava.

Would you rate the Gaucho?
Yes, most definitely. So far I haven't even had to put the thermal liners into my suit. The bib has a loop which can fit over you neck to keep it in place. Its a really good way of keeping your front torso, legs & feet completely dry. My suit is waterproof, but I sometimes put a cheap waterproof overcoat over the top, which stops my suit getting mucky over the winter. Also, in the bib is a pouch which has a cover that pulls out and covers the rear seat of my GSA, so no wet bum when getting onto the bike in the rain. Just make sure that you check theres a model for your particular bike. With the muffs I'm still able to wear my summer gloves and haven't even had to switch on the heated grips.
You won't win any fashion prizes, but who gives a ****?

I'm very tempted as it might save me the faffing about putting all my weatherproof stuff on for short trips between sitesSizes here

The NC30 on the contrary does warm your backside up and gets so hot you can't touch the frame for ages after a decent ride!

Does it flap around at speed?
No, it doesn't flap. The bottom part near your feet has a straight metal bar that you physically bend to create a curve and shape it as desired. There are also inflatable tubes running vertical down each side which help preserve its shape. There is a strap on each side that can be wrapped around your thigh to ensure that nothing flaps, but I've never had to use it. This strap fastens with a press stud so in the event of a spill you come clean away from the bike. Same for the neck strap on the front bib, it fastens with velcro. The bib can be folded forward out of the way or pressed up against your torso either with or without the neck strap.Edited by LeadFarmer on Wednesday 26th November 16:55
