Hi all, my battery failed me at the weekend and although it's lasted six years I wondered if I should be looking for something different or just buying the same again, a NUMAX 089 (68Ah, 505A CCA) at about £73 delivered.

I have had a look at the search and useful links etc, but not found much of help (but I'm happy to be pointed in the right direction) smile

If it makes any difference it will be connected to my Optimate conditioner as unfortunately I'm unable to use the car as often as I'd like.

Also as long as it fits in the tray I have it clamped in place with a metal brace so that may give me a few more options but I'd rather not be messing with the orientation of the terminals.

What have you got? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Stu

Hi Stu,
"Austin" my S1 has a Lion 031 70Ah 540 CCA calcium battery which I purchased from Eurocarparts last winter. ( Check online to see if they have any discount deals on at the moment. )
It fits straight onto the underbonnet tray, but is slightly taller than the old ?072? that came off, so make sure your terminal cables have sufficient slack in them to accomodate the height.
I too have a metal clamp affair consisting of two threaded hooked bars & an angle strip, but have also added an old belt for extra security. See photo.

I have a smart charger from Aldi, but that is used more often on the old Mondeo, which seems to get little use wink

I have just put a Halfords HCB072 on my S3. Identical dimensions to the 069 that I took off but with a slighter higher rating. It also felt lighter than the old battery.

I know they are not the cheapest, but certainly convenient for me as there is a store 2 miles down the road

The car starts much better now than when the old battery was on.

Battery is held in place by a ratchet strap as I do not trust the small clamp that is on the tray.

Thanks for the replies gents, it appears there is no firm favorite and lots of options with the size/power.

I'm hopeless when I have choice, wobble I prevaricate (is that the word?) for ages and end up buying the first one I saw when usually the price has gone up!

I have one of these in my S3 , I bought it about 2 years ago and a month or so ago it failed , I took it out went back to Halfords ( I did not have the receipt ) they checked it and confirmed a cell had gone down and replaced it and gave new receipt . Well worth the extra cost for the decent service.
