I'm not expecting to change the system, just venting my frustration really.

Back in Oct 2012 I was involved in a non-fault accident where the other party (HGV) merged (crawling pace) into the side of me while I was stationary in traffic because "he didn't see me". It all got sorted and life continued for about 2-3 months until I started receiving cold calls from essentially ambulance chasers trying to get me to file a claim because "money has been set aside". I dismissed them and assumed it would die down but no, I am STILL receiving them almost daily 2 years later.

Why is doing the "right thing" the hardest option? I just want some peace! furious

Tell them you'll just go and get the person who had the claim, then leave the phone on the table until they hang up. Great way of getting rid of them whilst reducing the time they could be annoying others

That's the way to do it. Just pop the phone in a drawer while the s waste their time waiting.

I once spent about 20 minutes (as i was waiting for a lift and had nothing better to do) explaining to a cold caller, how I had a very stiff neck after a collision that was not my fault, the guy on the end of the phone was getting very excited, telling me how he could get me some money to tide me over until the full claim was settled, it was only after 20 minutes he had worked out I was on the dodgems at the fair at the time of the collision, he had a right go at me for wasting his time, they can give, but not take it!

Thanks for that but I have already registered as a consequence of all this. I think the problem stems from this being an historical thing because my details were distributed/sold prior to me registering? Short of binning my number and starting fresh I'm not sure there is a magic fix frown

Its been a year since mine and I get spates of calls from a Manchester call centre related to whiplash. I block the number every time but they always ring on a slightly different number. I refuse to even give them the time of day.

Yes they are a PITA!

Thankfully calls to me have stopped (fingers crossed) from a claim made in 2012.

When i tell them to sue the ass off the bloke who did the damage and caused me much pain and grief they too get all excited, even when i tell them it was hail damage in a severe storm it still takes them a while to figure it out!

What makes you guys think this is because you had accidents? I, and my wife and her 83 year old mother get them quite regularly, even though none of us have had an accident.

We also get told we are due compensation for being miss old PPI, even though we've never had any.

Just don't speak, lay the phone down and they'll soon stop bothering you.

I was lucky enough to get a needle stick at work and somehow the ambulance chasing mob got my details... They just dont give up do they? I just give the phone to my toddler. She enjoys herself!

They bother you whether you've had an accident or not - I've had no accidents but plenty of the calls. I always answer my phone pretending to be an Indian take away and try to sell them food, unless it happens to be friends or family calling in which case I revert to being 'me'.

Just set up a call blocker.

Everyone gets the same calls!

The bit I hate most is the "Hi, how are you today......"

Well, I've just run over the cat and my wife has filed for divorce, but otherwise ok thanks.

The other way is to use one of the aerosol alarms down the phone,

Neither makes any difference to the number of calls, but there is an element of satisfaction to be gained.

You're registered with TPS and the calls keep coming in - first step is to get number and full details of the company, then file a complaint with TPS. Next step- go on to the ICO site and a make a further complaint , mention harassment and nervous problem when phone rings ,in case it's them again. ICO have teeth, but they need evidence. BTW- ICO also deal with texts ,as TPS don't any more. If you've got the number, but they won't give you the name of the firm- try "who calls me .com" to get an idea of the firm.

"Hello, ahhh brilliant, when I claimed for this accident last year I only got £300, I'd still like to claim for some more, you're not the company I used the first time are you?"

They'll have hung up and burned you off every list at the word "claimed", you are no value to them whereas a reluctant non claimer still has potential value if only they can convince you to claim.

Had a very frustrating phone call myself yesterday which went something along the lines of;

"You had a non-fault accident back in July, correct?"
"Yes"
"Is there a reason you didn't claim for personal injury?"
"I wasn't injured"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I was fine"
"You know we can get you an average of £1800 if you can say Yes you were injured"
"I was fine, I wasn't injured"
"You didn't wake up the next morning feeling a bit stiff?"
"No, I was fine"
"Are you sure, most people wake up feeling at least a bit stiff.."
"Nope, still fine"
"Ok Sir, thankyou for your time"

What an absolute joke....and everyone's premiums are higher because of this ste...

I was once told that, although as a driver any personal injury claim may have been settled, my passengers are also entitled to compensation. I was very interested in this. They were offering up to £1000 for every passenger in the vehicle. I asked the woman if she had all the accident details In front of her, and she replied that she did, so I proceeded to ask her which passengers would be eligible to claim, as I was riding a 125cc motorbike on L plates. She didn't have a good answer...
