A friend on mine (honestly) has lost the only set of keys they had for their pickup. It a Chevrolet LUV which as far as I can tell is just a rebadged D-Max, this shape -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_LUV#mediavi...

They had a mobile locksmith out who failed to cut a new key for it so I bought and fitted a new lock-set from a 2005 D-MAX. I now need the key coding on but am being told you need a Pin number for the immobiliser. As its an import Chevrolet UK and Isuzu UK say they cannot find it on their system in order to get the pin code.

Does anyone know how do we find out where it was imported from so they can contact the in country manufacture?

Well you could de-code the VIN number, which would tell you where the car was made. but how you find out which country / car plant has which letter / number I don't know. You'd probably have to go to the manufacturer and ask them. I'm surprised they didn't just ask your friend for that in the first place.

Here's the wiki for the D-Max. As you can see it's been made in a lot of countries. Some markets didn't even have immobilisers.

Here's a VIN decoder:

The other question that springs to mind though is if you bought the new key and lock set from a breaker wouldn't it be much simpler to get the immobiliser from them as well. Then it would be matched to the key and lock set already?
