Just had a head-turning weekend loan of a Macan S diesel. So impressed that even my wife was doing man maths, justifying the car as a replacement for our Q5.

But - Porsche Edinburgh are quoting a waiting list of approx 24 months for ordered cars.

Does anyone know of an OPC quoting a significantly shorter time than that?

We did ask about the demo car, but apart from the fact it was up-specced to a crazy level, it was sold before it arrived.
It's first owner will get a 6 month-old, 10k mile car at list price. No thanks.

Stick a deposit down, its about £3K...

We were quoted a delivery date of approximately 18 months at the time for a Petrol S and it looks like ours is coming through in about half that time...

Considering selling ours and wonder where the market is for these? Classifieds seem to be all over the place, with huge variances in spec making it difficult to assess what these are worth used.

May be worth asking your Porsche dealer. We heard of a Turbo bought for £70k being bought back by the same dealer for £76k... and resold for £79k.

Porsche owned centres have the biggest allocations and shortest wait lists. Rumour has it Hatfield OPC seem to have the shortest wait time, but they may also be telling porkies. Who knows. The allocation of a build doesn't seem to be first come first serve, best to get a deposit down somewhere and harass until received.

Thanks - will call Hatfield out of interest.

If we do go ahead though, will prob just place the deposit with Edinburgh & see what happens.

They are selling a LOT of cars at the moment, and building a bigger dealership in the spring - so their allocation (currently circa 25 Macans/year) may well increase. Plus production capacity is expandable to 80k cars/year (from 50k), I heard.

None of the additional cars are UK bound, most for China and Asia.

I want a Macan but the visit to my local OPC (no names, no packdrill) revealed that the wait was 18 months +. No good as the current PCP ends soon.

What genius in Stuttgart decided that 3000 a year was the correct amount to produce?

Mum was very keen for a Macan...she's not too good at the whole waiting thing when it comes to cars so didn't bother pursuing in the end.

I must say, the salesman was st - he had a nice pre-reg Cayenne there that he could have talked her into...terrible salesman.

They're making something like 50000 a year; I visited the factory in April and it was a hive of activity. However, the allocation for the UK is what matters and, unfortunately, there's the small matter of the US and China taking priority.

It was ever thus. In 1990, I complained to Porsche that while I was waiting 18 months for a 964 Carrera 4, I had seen cars on the lot in the US waiting for a buyer. I never got a reply. For decades, and in spite of their protestations otherwise, Porsche AG has, when it comes to new car supply, treated the UK like s**t.

got rid of my turbo, was a good car but had somehting missing for me. Achieved 8k over pretty quickly, so good premiums still being paid for these cars.

Had the same experience, local OPC very good but long waiting list.

Felt it was also too small in the back for passengers and the boot space was seriously restricted.

Nice looking but flawed IMO....also about as masculine as a Tutu....ladies only need apply I feel.

My wife was keen but bit disappointed when we looked at one. Great drive but she felt it was too "hair dressy". Her words not mine (and no, she is not butch smile )

So you need a Cayenne surely, simples.
Thinking about it, why build a 5 door people and luggage carrying 4x4 if it's not big enought to for-fill the roll?

The biggest disappoint is that the seats in the Macan are probably some of the most comfortable I have tried and seemed a good seat for my bad back (and kyphosis). Are the Cayenne seats similar?

st and car salesman. Words that were forever destined to go together IMHO. Only ever met one good one, who later changed jobs and worked for me...
