My sister wants to buy one. It will be a manual with three pedals.

Is there anything she should know?

Some of early ones suffer from timing chain troubles, identified by a sharp rattling noise at startup. The turbos can also fail but its relatively uncommon. Otherwise they are generally quite solid and the engine suits the car well. Make sure it has a full service history as they are sensitive to the oil changes been done, and preferably some kind of warranty.

Mk6 or Mk7

I'm pretty sure the Mk7 version is a completely new engine.

That's correct yes, the 7 uses the new 'lifetime belt' EA211 engine, too new for any reported problems

This is it not sure if it's a 6 or 7.

Looks like a 7, so its a perfectly safe buy in that case!

Price is a little expensive though as www.drivethedeal.com will sell you a brand new one for the same money. SE trim has been replaced with Match which comes with a few extra toys

You can tell it's a mk7 by the angular corners to the headlights - the mk6 are rounded off.

I test drove one of those at the end of last year.

Great ride quality, reasonably nippy, so easy to drive and very refined apart from excessive road noise on rough surfaces.

Seems expensive, as mentioned above you could get a new one for that price, or spend just £15k on a brand new Leon SE with the same engine if that takes her fancy.
