Hi,

Heading home into Hillingdon along the eastbound A40 about 20 minutes ago, my attention couldn't help but be grabbed by a fast moving convoy of around a dozen closely spaced plain white vans heading westbound, all with flashing blues in their wing mirrors, led by 3 or 4 police motorbikes. All the vans looked identical save for one in the middle of the pack which was a bit smaller and had what looked like an outside broadcast van-style fold-down satellite dish on the roof.

Given the close proximity of Northolt, I'm fairly used to seeing VIP convoys tearing out of London like this, but I've never seen a convoy that was entirely made up of plain vans. Any ideas what it could have been?

Cheers,
Chris

Yes, I saw it too. Looked suspicious imo. Especially the black pick up truck with the huge bull bars towing the big trailer covered by a tarpaulin.

Here's a link to what supposed it was. I'm not buying it though!

When did he escape then, because he was jailed for 40 years in 2007. Unless there are two of him?

No idea, just quoting the article.

Anyway, a comment says, "Hussein Osman was extradited to Britain 9 years ago, keep up!

This had nothing to do with that, but was part of a training exercise in Guildford which was held by the South East Counter Terrorism Unit."

"But this was possibly the biggest security operation at RAF Northolt – and conducted in total secrecy..."

Total secrecy? Hardly. Not with photos of the vehicles in the papers and on the internet. Total secrecy is when no one realises it has happened.

To be fair, since the 'Editor' wrote this story with a complete lack of any facts and referencing an event that actually happened years ago, I think we can safely say the actual premise was far from trying to be 'secret'.

The journalism is so lazy, he should probably resign his post.

The article has been updated to say that the convoy did not in fact contain the 7/7 bomber and that the authorities were unable to confirm what it was all about. 2 convoys of approx 15 vehicles each left northolt and traveled towards central london.

As someone said above, it was a training exercise for the South East Counter terrorism unit, however they forgot to notify anyone!!
We had a few calls about it on the day, as it also went through Guildford and the residents thought the world was about to end

They still forgot to update the photo caption though.
