Anyone know more about Sonos Boost?

Is it just a more powerful bridge?

I sometimes get poor connection to my bedroom Play:3 and ideally would like to get sonos network coverage to my detatched garage too and am interested to know if the Boost will be worth it?

Haven't read all the docs, but from what I've seen it's a more powerful bridge, but can also be used separately as a Sonos network extender.

So, eg, if you already have a bridge and the Play:3 in your bedroom has a poor signal then you could:
1) replace the bridge with a boost, which just gives a more powerful network, but still centred around where your bridge was before, or
2) put a boost part way between your bridge and the Play:3. The boost will then connect to the bridge and effectively relay the connection to the Play:3

Don't know layout of your house skibum, but if you could get a boost nearer your garage it might get you coverage there as well as improve signal in your bedroom.

Remember that Sonos creates a mesh network. Every Sonons device you have both connects to the network and also relays it on to any other devices.

Thanks for the response.

At the moment I am not using any bridge at all. I have my Connect hooked up directly to my broadband router and that controls the home cinema. I then have a playbar, sub and 2 play:1's in the lounge and then a play:5 in the kitchen. They all work fine. It's just the play:3 in the bedroom that drops, but thats probably the furthest away from any other Sonos component.

Does the Boost have to be connected to the router or can it pick up the Sonos mesh network and then boost from there? If so, I can probably put the Boost in the kitchen as that is below the bedroom (and hopefully has a better result of getting the network up to the bedroom through the ceiling!) and is also about 5/6 meters away from the garage. I'm hoping it will be strong enough to get the network out through the patio doors, across the garden and through the garage wall into the garage for a play:3 in there (which I havent got yet).

Hmm - I guess there is only one way to find out...
