What job do I go for next?
Discussion
I'm 19 and currently work the night shift at Sainsburys stacking shelves to earn money while waiting for my online magazine to be earning me enough money for to be able to do it full time. Working nights has really started to take its toll on me and with my other medical issues (mild depression) it just really isn't appropriate.
Trouble is I have no idea where to go from here. I foolishly bunked all my exams in school and left with bad grades, then went to college to study mechanics. Preferably I'd like a more office type job, day or night, but have no idea where to start looking. I wouldn't leave my current job unless the money is better than £8.50 an hour which I earn at Sainsburys.
Any ideas on where I could head towards?

What's your typing speed like? Data entry might be a possibility. Go with an agency for more money. As to the hourly rate, you'll have to check with them.
I work from my computer most days so I can type fast. I'm not entirely sure what data entry might entail if I'm honest..Petrolhead95 said:

The old classic of a postroom is always good. That's where I started, work hard at that don't be late/sick smile etc and you will get offerd a job in another department. Sign up with all the local office work agencies.
I got offered a job in procurement. The rest is history.
If you have bad grades, go to night college and sort it out, it's fairly cheap and you may enjoy it second time.

Retail, hospitality, customer service roles are always needed.
I was working 2-3 jobs at 19 part time obviously but working in a shop, taking calls in a call centre and bar work. I also played in a band (even for money occasionally) and ran my own live sound business hiring out P.A. gear.
I stuck with the Call Centre stuff as I mostly enjoyed it. I design them nowadays.

As an aside, my father recently retired after many years of graft, with his final years of work stacking shelves (Nights) for his local Tesco. He found that many hours of indoor work and sleeping through the day was pretty bad for his mental state.
He suffered from SAD as a result and really, really got helped by a SAD lamp: http://www.lumie.com/collections/light-therapy-sad - a much happier chap as a result. Just something to consider

This chap talks sense I left school in the same position - OK grades, but not fantastic, and I didn't have any desire to go to uni.
I joined a local job agency and worked in the post room/facilities office at a company in London. It was tiring, but I earned a very nice wage and was offered a permanent position there. If it weren't for being part time / salary not working out I'd have accepted and possibly moved up within the company.
What I did gain was a lot of work experience which always counts when starting out, and helps build up your CV
