Let me preface this by saying on a scale of 0 to Cynical, I'm Foamy the Squirrel (Google it if you missed that), as is the guy I train with (competitive power lifter). Especially when it comes to nicely packaged formulae, etc.

I've always had a shot of black coffee 10 minutes before a workout and it's served me well, but I was convinced today to try one of these instead (coffee, unsalted, grass fed butter and virgin coconut oil.

It worked an absolute treat. I honestly felt great. I know some people are taking it as a meal replacement, etc but I'm just interested in hearing people's experiences with it as part of training rather than for any weight loss reasons.

I start my day with Bullet Proof Coffee, it's served me well for the last 2 years as a preworkout. I've run 6-30 miles with it as my starter intake and had no issues, also did 6-10 mile cardio and 45 min kettlebells with no further need for fuel. It works for me, but may not for others

Sounds interesting,

what's the recipe?

ETA - from what Ive googled its

Coffee (unsure if its filter/espresso/pressed or if it actually matters)
Kerrygold unsalted (2tbs)
Coconut Oil (the recipes seem to have a processed product, id rather just use pure coconut oil)

Blended together

I use the strongest expresso coffee I can get or order the Bullet Proof own brand, Kerry gold, raw coconut block, Virgin olive oil or Udo's oil and blend, you can put a chunk of dark choc in it to give it a bit of flavour. I think it works out to 4 expressos in my mug

Coffee with the lowest toxin rate possible
Unsalted, grass fed butter
Coconut oil

That's what he uses anyway.

Could I use my cold brew coffee for this? As I understand it one of the benefits of cold brewing is the lower toxicity? Or maybe that's just acidity????

I use 25g butter and coconut oil, 25ml of olive or Udo's oil. You can adjust amounts to taste. Dave Asprey has the bulletproof web site

Getting the butter to melt might be an issue. Or is it heated after the brewing process?

Not really in all the cases I cold brew.

Basically grind coffee beans until coarsely ground.
Place in a jar with water and leave for 24-48 hours.
Drain the resultant coffee mixture into a bottle and store in the fridge (throw the ground coffee away)

Serve over ice.

It removes the acidity of the coffee and means you can enjoy a cold coffee on a hot day.

You may run into issues blending the other parts with the coffee due to it being cold, it's supposed to be a creamy hot drink to warm and fill you up. I've made some and kept in a flask, have to shake it to make it remix

cold brew coffee is a concentrate - so you mix with boiling water (if you want it hot) - it works perfect. And I use a cold brew tody so no jam jar faff wink

And the coffee this way is great.....taste good and means I have no feeling off needing to eat until after my lunch time gym session - so I then eat between 1pm-8pm only

Or buy cold brew concentrate if you can find it.

Do you have a link to the amazon seller that does it?

Have been looking for ages for a cold brew concentrate and never really seen them on sale in the UK.
