Hello all,
does anyone know anything about the lurid green 2002 supersport for sale in Gloucester in the classfieds? Tempted to drop the seller a line but appreciate if anyone had any history on it...

If it is near Berkeley I think the seller is the guy who owns sevenhire.

I don't think it's one of their hire fleet though.

I had a quick google to try and find history for it and stumbled on that possible link. Spec-wise its what I'm looking for but has a lot of work down lately which could either be a good or bad thing if you see what I mean... it's not what a seller would describe as an 'honest' car (not suggesting dishonest either before anyone takes offence!).

By the looks of things it's an ex race car as the race chassis has the handbrake under the dash. Either that, or it's a pre '96 chassis.

I've looked at that car a couple of times but not spotted the handbrake. I guess that makes it most likely an ex-academy car? That in itself wouldn't worry me to be honest since I'm after something that will spend at least half its life on track. Currently I'm a bike track-dayer but looking to branch out.

Mines an ex Academy car with a race chassis and my handbrake isn't under the dash, it's on the tunnel. Are you sure about the handbrake location thing?

According to wikipedia the 2001-2002 academy cars had the under-dash handbrake. My target price for a seven is around 12k. This one is a couple of grand more, maybe on a bit high side. But like I said, the spec is more or less what I'm after assuming all that paint isn't to cover up a nasty history.

All the Academy cars in 2002 had the handbrake under the dash, the "soft tunnel" chassis were changed to the normal handbrake on tunnel for 2003.

The car in the add looks like it could be ex-academy, if you look at the cockpit shots there are three holes drilled in the triangular dashboard support (lower right of the dash), this indicates that it was either fitted with or prepped to accept the Roadsports cage of that vintage.

The reg is also consistent with a car SVA'd by Caterham Midlands, or the original owner lived in the Derby/Notts/Leic area. My academy car was FP02 XOR, this one must have been registered just after it!

The only Kawasaki Green Academy car in either of the two series in 2002 belonged to Nick Bailey, however alot of these cars had colour changes during the first few seasons of the life! Nick had a private plate on during his ownership so none of my photos can confirm if the car in the add is his. Nick was a fastidious owner, the car was always immaculate!

Here is Nick during his first race at Mallory,

Here's one for mine during the build showing the how the cage mounted back then! the red box highlights the three bolts holding the cage to the dash support.

I noticed the three holes but put them down to a shift light or something similar having been there. Thanks for the registration info too. Looking at your pics that could well be the same car: black pack, same wheels and centres and the exhaust can looks like a match too.

Its very tempting. Earlier in the year I got close to buying a porker 996; the various engine issues scared me off but the money is still burning a hole in my bank account. Ever since I sat in a caterham at the 1992 earls court motor show (under a big picture of Chris Rea I might add) I've been determined to get one.. Now I'm in my 40s I can blame it on a midlife crisis...
