Hi all
Parked up in Camden today and used the ringo app on my phone to pay -
Unfortunately the app uses my everyday trafic as the default vehicle when paying for parking, and without noticing this was the vehicle I paid to park, NOT my company's transit that I was using and parking up.
Is there any point in trying to appeal ? It was a genuine mistake on my part and I can send printouts showing that the trafic is my regular vehicle and that I paid for parking in that location for it. So technically I paid just gave the wrong vehicle details.
I've heard Camden are buggers for parking enforcement so is there any hope of common sense prevailing or should I just cough up ?
Cheers Ron

Worth a try, nothing to lose. You may be lucky that your case is dealt with by a human being.

I'm intrigued.

How was this the "app's" fault, and not human error?

You're right it is human error on my part
Had used the app to park the transit yesterday then logged out of the app last night - when I log back in to the app it defaults to the first vehicle in the "my vehicles" list - in this case my regular trafic. When parking this morning I didn't notice that it had defaulted to the trafic and just put in parking location and time etc.
a genuine mistake - just wondered if it was worth appealing and hoping common sense would prevail.

I had to lookup Ringo app, as I have never heard of it.

It seems to be something to do with London parking.

Not just London.

I've done exactly the same thing in Nottingham with the RINGO app.

I wrote in, explained the circumstances, and they dropped the ticket.

I imagine it's a fairly common error.

+1 for this. I used the voice recognition thing and didn't realise I'd got two letters wrong.

Wrote to them explaining and charge cancelled without any problem.

They are probably used to it

Thanks all
Kind of a mixed bag regarding responses. I'll try an appeal - it's obvious I paid - just entered the wrong vehicle details. I'll post up once I get a reply.

If it's any help I did a similar thing in Battersea using their ParkMobile app. I misspelt the registration number of my car and ended up with a ticket. I'd paid the parking fee, just with the wrong number.

I emailed them and explained and they waived the fine. They made it clear if it happened again they wouldn't do it again mind you.

Different borough and company but it's worth a go I reckon.

Make sure your letter has proof that you use both vehicles, the one you parked and the one you paid for.

They may well say your F... Up has now caused them an expense in chasing what looked like an unpaid fee so will not refund. That is itself a good reason not to refund you. Why shoud the people of Camden pay for your mistake?

No harm in trying though.

The app requires you to record your vehicle details in the app so with just the users e-mail address they should be able to look at his account and see it's a genuine error

I only joined when we were on hols in Cornwall as they were everywhere - Reigate and Banstead use them as well so it's handy for local use if you don't have any change or want the option to extend your stay without trudging back to the car park

Just had a flick through the T&Cs on the app and can't see anything specific to this situation

I have appealed five Camden tickets in the last 12 months and only lost one appeal.

OTOH, Why do they insist on making it hard for people? This business of locking tickets to particular cars via the reg number is just to stop people swapping partly used tickets, ie charging people for parking they haven't used. A simpler system would result in less of this kind of "expense". Councils are supposed to be a service to us, remember?

^ This +1

The Parking Attendant turns up at a space to see AB62 ACB when the space is paid for by AB62 ABC and so issues a ticket silly

It's the fking 'convenience' charge of 20p that pisses me off.

Chucking a quid in a machine is a damned site easier than messing around with some app.

They should be reducing charges if they want people to use the app, not making people pay more. I wouldn't use one out of principal anyway, and given that there will never be a time when everyone who wants to park has a smartphone, there will always be the option of a regular old ticket that can be passed on to others.

Had this numerous times in Edinburgh when changing reg/using old mans car/app crashing when trying to add new vehicle.

A polite letter contesting it always got my tickets revoked.

Not really the Apps fault.
I did exactly the same in Brent.
I appealed it and they said no, so I emailed the Head of Parking services admitting it was my error but requesting that they use some discretion. I had also sent evidence showing that both cars were mine.
He emailed back saying they will usually cancel the ticket in the event of an error so it got cancelled that time.
My advice is go higher than the support staff who will simply follow the rules and not consider the individual case.

Bit harsh! I'm a complaints handler, for my sins, and would take the opposite tack given the opportunity. I don't deal with parking but come across this sort of thing every day. If there's no appreciable loss, as there isn't in this case, and there's no regulatory breach then I'll usually correct the customer's error as a goodwill gesture. Happens all the time! However I work on a business retention basis, which us getting all pedantic about stuff doesn't help.

Sadly the parking enforces don't care about customer loyalty as they've got a 100% captive audience. Definitely worth fighting - I've successfully appealed parking tickets before, although for different reasons. They are people too, will hopefully take the pragmatic direction.
