Anyone on here who can help me with a situation with someone who has done some work on my house very badly and now taking me to court for payment of an invoice for the unfinished and bad work.

Will have to go to citizens advice and talk to trading standards I guess, but could do with some guidance from a solicitor or the like

Cheers

When you say they're taking you to court, what exactly have they issued you with or is it just a threat at this stage?

Happy to recommend some local solicitors however they'll cost you money, only really worth going that route if the money is significant and you're already fairly sure you haven't a decent case.

Try the CAB first, it's free!

Hi Eddy sorry to hear that!

If possible take photos of the unfinished work.

As stated try CAB first.

Roughly how much is the amount is for? A solicitor will charge just under £1K for some sound advice and if you want more then you pay more!

If it goes down the CCJ route it can take a few years to reolve! Trust me I know!

Take all advise from above.Send a letter to your builder explaining the situation and what your not happy with.Put everything in writing. If the work is shoddy you are protected by the supply of goods and services act 1982,where the work should be carried out with reasonable care and skill...

Thanks guys, yes I appreciate a formal solicitor will cost a prohibitive amount.
I have been sent a County Court Claim. I am going the CAB route initially of course and see where we go from there. PITA

Yes, I have picked up that the under the act the work has to be done with care and skill. This is definitely not the case. I could have done a much better job myself
